The men and women of the Bourne Firefighters IAFF Local 1717 want to thank the public for your kind words and help while we all dealt with the blizzard. While we’d hate to suggest spending more quality time with your shovel or snowblower, we’re asking that you help us help you, in the event that you need us. Please help your neighbors and dig out the fire hydrants near your home and around your neighborhood.

Attn residents, please stay home and do not take unnecessary risks. Most roads including highways and main roads are impassable or unplowed, with multiple reports of down trees and wires, and There are stranded vehicles through town and the highways. Please let the DPW, MassDOT, utilities crews, and emergency services do our work. Thank you for your patience while we navigate such an intense storm.

Hopefully all are hunkering down for the big game ! BFD is staffed with extra manpower for today’s big storm but we do need you to do one thing for us:

Keep all exterior vents (furnace, dryer, water heater) clear of snow and ice to prevent deadly Carbon Monoxide (CO) poisoning and CO—an odorless, colorless gas—to build inside your home.

Thank you! Go Pats !!

Today, we say farewell to Firefighter-Paramedic Joe Burchill. Joe started with us in July of 2019 as a humble firefighter/EMT-B, learning as much as he could and always giving 110%, outworking the best of us. Eager to provide better and higher levels of care to his patients, Joe went through paramedic school while continuing to work full time. His skills outside of firefighting—particularly in various types of construction—were invaluable to the department, as he was always willing to help with whatever project needed to be done around the station. A firefighter with the aptitude Joe has for this job, and everything else he did, are truly few and far between, and he will be greatly missed.

Joe is leaving us and heading west to a new department, following his heart in search of change, better benefits, and better opportunities. Though we’re sad to see you go, and lose a great man, we’re excited for all that lies ahead in your journey. Wherever you end up, they have no idea how lucky they’ll be to have you walk through their doors. Joe you’re a good man and great friend. We’ll miss you.
