Did you know.... The Sagamore Cemetery began in the early 1800s, 225 years ago, and incorporated in 1889. The cemetery covers 6 1/2 acres at the intersection of Ben Abbey Road and Route 6a in Sagamore. There are many historic stones located within the original 4 acres of the cemetery -left back corner at the Ben Abbey Road entrance. Some of these monuments mark the sites of bodies that were moved to the Sagamore Cemetery from two other cemeteries that were in the way of the route proposed for building of the Cape Cod Canal. Notable graves are of Bourne family members including the parents and grandparents of Jonathan Bourne for whom our Town was named.
