Reminder for our FREE rabies shot clinic from Texas Coalition for Animal Protection this Saturday at the shelter from 10am-12pm. We will have Tasty Steaks food truck in the parking lot that day selling food and they are donating their profits to the shelter that day and we will also do a one day adoption special we’re all adoptions are $50 and we still have a few sponsored dogs for adoption.

If you are a saginaw resident please remember to follow your city ordinance and get your registration with animal control complete after getting you rabies vaccination. We will be doing city registration tags as well at the table.

🚨Last Call🚨

Coby has until 3pm 3/28 to get out of the shelter due to temperament issues. He will bite randomly without any provocation and without warning. Will not make a good dog for a home with kids. Does not like being picked up or being on a leash and will need some training to work through his issues. If you sit on the floor he will climb into your lap and let you pet him but if you tell him to get off your lap he will lash out. We have tried to get him to settle down without success. He is 5yrs old, neutered, microchipped, and UTD on all vaccinations. If interested please contact the shelter at 817-230-0460

He does have a skin condition and what may be a tumor. He will be placed for rescue pull do the possible medical issues after stray hold is up. Final Update: Pulled by BRIZZEE ANIMAL RESCUE INC.

UPDATE: this guy will be staying with us at the shelter until his appointment at Decatur Pet Health Monday morning to most likely have his foot/leg amputated. and then he will be sent to a rescue. What we know about this guy so far... He is super chill and loves treats and let us pull ticks off of his whole body for like 30-45 mins without complaint. He seems to be about 2 yrs old. We are having to cover the cost of the surgery so if you would like to help at all you can send any donations to our paypal link below. His vet bills today on top of his surgery monday were estimated to range to approximately $850 but they could go higher than that. He is now resting comfortably as we can get him with meds until Monday. Once we get a final bill and see how he does after surgery Monday we can get a better update for everyone.

Update:Owner decided to readopt him…

Owner surrendered due to being aggressive to anyone outside of the immediate household and hard to handle. He is about 1.5yr old Belgian Malinois/German shepherd. He is neutered, microchipped, and UTD on core vaccinations. He has been scared of staff and growling to try to keep us away from him but seems to calm down for treats but still does not want to be touched at the moment. We have been told that he is very dog friendly and loves to roughhouse and is house trained. He loves to cuddle on the couch but has lots of energy and needs someone who can work on his training. If there is any rescue that can give this guy the TLC he needs please contact the shelter at 817-230-0460.

Pugsley was abandoned by an awful person at the end of the road leading up to the shelter. He is about 50lbs and 1-1.5yrs old. He had terrible skin issues when he came to us and we are working on getting that cleared up. He is an energizer bunny and needs someone who is ready to do some puppy training and lots of exercise. He loves to try to jump up and try to lick staff in the face. Would make a great running buddy. He is neutered, microchipped, and UTD on all vaccinations.

12-17 Update: Sarge has found a home for Christmas 11/9 Update: Sarge was able to see a vet and get a ton of testing done due to a very generous benefactor. It is confirmed that he has Megaesophagus with high risk for aspiration phenomena. Blood work says he is doing fairly ok but he has HORRIBLE body condition and while we thought we were able to put a few pounds on him he already lost it by the time we got him to the vet. The vet says living in a shelter environment will most likely kill him without the special care he needs to manage his condition which he will have to deal with the rest of his life. Staff are looking into if we can figure out how to possibly get him a Bailey chair and maybe be able to teach him to eat in it. Other wise a staff member has to hold his body upright about 5 times a day to feed him and get the food to go down to his stomach. The vet says he needs a liquid diet so staff now has to blend anything he is going to eat in a blender before we feed it to him… (if anyone has a blender they would like to donate for his food smoothies please let the shelter know🙏🙏). We are trying everything possible to give him the best life we can possible. He is only 2.5 years old and we truly don’t want to give up on him just yet! He is still available for adoption and his adoption is completly free!! He will need specialized care for the rest of his life but if you are willing to take that on PLEASE contact the shelter. If you know of any rescue please let them know and maybe we can find someone who is knowledgeable in how to care for him better than we can. He is truly a SWEETHEART and was dealt a bad card in life. If anyone knows where you can purchase a Bailey Chair or maybe get plans so we can attempt to maybe build him one please message us!!! While cleaning out stuff I found the adoption paperwork from when I got this boy...Thibodaux aka Tibby, Mr Tibbs and sometimes Tibbers...adopted from Saginaw Texas animal shelter 10/29/2009...was about 10/11 months old...so will be 13 in December or January...absolutely the smartest, most forgiving, loyal, happy animal I've ever had...was the best $20 I've ever spent...will never be another Tibbs...here are a couple of pictures day one driving home from shelter and couple today...little grayer, less teeth, less stamina but the same awesome best friend.

I'm doing great and showing mom how smart I am. In 2.5 weeks, I survived my first bath, let mom brush me and grind all my nails (with lots of treats), ring the bells on the door every time I need to potty (and sometimes when I want to terrorize a plant or yell at the neighbor, he started it), sleep without fussing in my crate, became a jeep dog, am the office mascot, and know a few commands (sit, come, down, leave it, wait, lay down, and sometimes stay). Can't wait to show you what I look like when I'm a big girl!

"Clear the Shelter" is a not a good idea.
If people cannot afford regular adoption fees how are they going to afford monthly heart-worm and flea/tick prevention? That can run to around $20 or more monthly. Annual veterinary exams and vaccinations are also quite costly.
