Guilty. On all 3 counts. Bond revoked, and he was immediately remanded into custody.
A sigh of relief is felt among our community as we hear the news that he was found guilty on all charges. We will not repeat his name here, nor share his photo, as he has been given more than George Floyd ever has and ever will.
Let this brief victory give some type of feelings of justice to his family and friends, and let it give us all hope that things will slowly but surely start to change for the better.
Let it be known that the institutionalized racism, discrimination, and tragic injustices against Black people in the United States will not be allowed to continue.
We will continue to call for the much-needed change in law enforcement and their polices, as well as for our communities to continue to fight against the devastating injustices that we have faced repeatedly.
Our leaders and institutions have failed to confront systemic racism and, in some cases, have chosen to blatantly ignore it, or admit that it exists and then do nothing to destroy it. Know that this will not longer be tolerated. We will no longer allow them or anyone else to let the blight of system racism to openly infiltrate our health systems, our education system, or our justice systems. We will work together to demand justice for everyone and everywhere.
Change is coming, but it demands that we stay the course. It demands that we continue to fight for what is right, while condemning all that is wrong.
Today, we once again grieve for Mr. George Floyd and his family, but we pray that this verdict helps begin the healing process for them and our society.
