Swan Valley Middle School Parents & Families :

Just a couple reminders as we get ready to start the month of November

Summer dress code ends on Friday (Oct 29th). That means no shorts starting Monday, November 1st. If leggings are worn the accompanying top must meet the mid-thigh requirement. Torn jeans also need to not have holes above the mid-thigh. Crop tops that expose the mid-riff are also not acceptable.

The 1st marking period ends on November 5th. All late work was due today (Weds Nov 3rd). Report cards will be published electronically on Skyward on November 12th.

Daylight Savings Time ends on November 7th. Fall back and enjoy your extra hour of sleep!

November 19th, 22nd and 23rd are all half days of school due to Parent / Teacher Conferences. Students will be released at 11:00.

Parent / Teacher Conferences will be held on November 22nd and 23rd. Monday we will be hosting in person conferences from 12:00-3:00 and 5:00-8:00. Tuesday will be virtual conferences only. If you would like to schedule a virtual conference please contact the office to do so. We will also be reaching out to schedule virtual conferences for select students. More detailed information will be sent the week of Nov 15th.

Parents dropping off students (Car Riders) need to use the front doors of the building. The buses use the door found along the service drive. We recently had an issue with a student darting in front of a bus before school. In order to ensure everyone’s safety, please use the correct drop off points.

Please remember to send your student to school with a mask.

Finally, the SVMS staff wish you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving with no school on November 24th (Staff Professional Development Day), 25th and 26th.

P.S. Only 58 days till Christmas!

It was an exciting weekend for the SVMS Volleyball girls as we started out by showing the 8th grade football team that girls in fact are just as athletic as boys! Then the A team traveled to St. Johns for a tournament on Saturday! They started out by dominating Grand Ledge and Dansville led by Jessica Meyette’s smooth serve and Mia Robinson and Izzy Coffel’s skilled play at the net. They advanced to the Gold Bracket where they finally met their match this season in a very skilled Dewitt team. The Lady Vikes lost in two sets but remained positive and thankful for the experience to play other great MS teams around the state! The Vikes travel to Garber tonight for a TVC Championship showdown!

SVMS Cross Country had twenty-four personal records set Tuesday night in some pretty soggy conditions at Robert’s Park. The Vikings girls and boys both took second in the Tri-Valley jamboree. Alex Schram, Gannon Sova, Owen Hare, Blake Young, and Landen Whelton made up the top five boys. Aubrey Hare, Anicela Ortega, Mackenzie Powell, Jadyn Hartley, and Emily Killingbeck made up the top five girls. All of our athletes competed at a very high level. Great work kids!

It was an eventful night for the SVMS Volleyball teams as we started by hosting 20 of the SVMS 6th grade girls to practice Volleyball skills with the older players. We then played 6 sets against Ithaca between the 7th and 8th grade teams- taking 4 of them. After we painted faces and devoured pizza as we supported the SV Varsity girls as they beat Freeland in front of a packed house!! It was a good night to be a Viking!

It’s been an exciting Homecoming week for
SV Volleyball! Both grades came together to practice Friday, watch the Homecoming parade together, and work concessions at the football game.

Saturday morning came early but it was worth the wake up! The 8th grade teams headed to Midland Dow and the A team secured the 1st place trophy in the finals against White Pine. The 7th grade A squad traveled to St. John’s Middle School for a competitive day of volleyball. They also made it to the finals but fell short against St. John’s to receive a 2nd place tournament win.

Last Wednesday, the Lady Viking 8th Grade B team came to play with all of their energy this Wednesday against Bridgeport. The Vikes swept the Lady Bearcats 3 sets to 0 by a score of 25-16, 25-19, and 17-15. The third set was a thrilling one as the Vikings clawed back due to some clutch serving from Sidnee Blank and Alexis Mendoza. Zoey Steiner, Madi McKay, and Ashleigh Lederer combined for over 10 kills to pace the Vikings throughout the three matches. Alexis Ittner and Abby Megerle provided the back row points with some outstanding play.

Both 7th and 8th grade A & B teams will play Alma on Monday!
