We are so excited to welcome another new member to our team!!

Please join us in welcoming Evelyn Travis to Child & Family Services as our Sexual Assault Center’s new Legal Advocate.

Evelyn brings years of experience supporting survivors of intimate partner violence and sexual assault, with a strong focus on underserved populations. Her work has spanned shelter settings, classrooms, and communities; but has always been rooted in advocacy, compassion, and a deep respect for the resilience of those she serves.

In her new role, Evelyn will walk alongside survivors of sexual violence throughout the legal process; offering guidance, advocacy, and support every step of the way. From navigating court proceedings to connecting individuals with critical resources, her work helps ensure survivors feel informed, supported, and never alone.

Evelyn shares, “It’s a privilege to walk alongside survivors throughout their healing and justice process, and I am incredibly grateful to be a part of that journey. My hope is to continue supporting survivors as they access the power that they already hold within themselves.”

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and their one-year-old son (especially on the water and in Northern Michigan!!)

We’re so grateful to have her on our team and can’t wait for the impact she’ll make on the lives of the individuals and families we serve.

Because at Child & Family Services, we believe Building Better Lives starts with advocacy, compassion, and people who show up when it matters most.

Today we honor and celebrate Father’s Day: a day to recognize the many forms that fathering and caregiving can take.

We hold gratitude for fathers, father figures, stepfathers, grandfathers, foster parents, guardians, mentors, chosen family, and all who show up with steady care, protection, guidance, and love in ways both big and small.

We also hold space for those for whom today may feel more complicated. For those grieving the loss of a father, grieving a child, navigating distance or strained relationships, longing to become a parent, or simply finding this day difficult for personal reasons. We see you.

Fathering is not defined by one role or one path. It is defined by presence, care, consistency, and the many ways people show up for others with strength and compassion.

To everyone who carries that role in any form: thank you. Your impact matters, your care is felt, and your presence makes a difference every day.

From all of us at Child & Family Services, we wish you a peaceful and meaningful Father’s Day.

Just a friendly reminder that Child & Family Services is featured in Target Circle™ this cycle and voting wraps at the end of this month! 🎯

So, for all your completely necessary (and… let’s be honest… sometimes slightly unnecessary) Target runs, you can take a few extra seconds to direct Target funds to support the work we’re doing right here in our community.

It’s quick, it’s easy, and it turns your everyday shopping into something that goes a little further.

Here’s how to vote:
Step 1: Choose ‘My Target’ in the Target app or ‘Account’ on Target.com
Step 2: Tap ‘Cast votes’
Step 3: Find us & vote

Every vote helps direct support to mental health care, sexual assault support services, and employee wellness programs for individuals and families in our community.

Because at Child & Family Services, Building Better Lives sometimes looks like healing, growth, and hard conversations… and sometimes looks like going into Target for one thing and leaving with five.

Mental health doesn’t exist in isolation; especially when identity, belonging, and acceptance are part of the story.

This Pride Month, we’re making space for an important reality: LGBTQIA+ individuals (especially youth) continue to face significantly higher rates of mental health challenges, including depression, anxiety, and thoughts of su***de.

According to The Trevor Project’s 2025 U.S. National Survey, 41% of LGBTQIA+ young people considered attempting su***de in the past year.

Behind every number is a young person who deserves safety, affirmation, and access to compassionate support. When we create spaces where people feel seen, supported, and valued, we help make healing possible.

If you or someone you love needs support, we’re here to walk alongside you.

This week’s Peek at Our Week looks a little different (and a little more colorful! 🌈)

We’re highlighting the “Colors of Child & Family Services” with a small look at the many shades, spaces, and details that make up our work.

This one is really about celebrating the colors - the rainbow of care, connection, resilience, and support that shows up here every single day.

Because at Child & Family Services, we believe that Building Better Lives includes every color of the rainbow; every story, every struggle, and every bit of strength that comes with it. 🌈

With the first day of summer fast approaching, it’s time we slow down, reset, and make space for simple moments of self-care; whether that’s stepping outside, taking a break from the noise, or finding a few minutes that are just for you.

Self-care doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes it’s the small things that help us feel more grounded, refreshed, and recharged.

If this season feels a little overwhelming, you don’t have to navigate it alone. Our team is here to support you, wherever you’re at.

For this month’s Team Tuesday, we asked our staff to share their go-to game for game night… and the results did not disappoint 🎲 From classics that bring out everyone’s competitive side to the cozy favorites that keep things light, it turns out we’ve got a pretty strategic (and slightly chaotic) crew.

We love sharing these small, everyday moments because they remind us that behind the counseling sessions, advocacy work, and support services are real people; a team that shows up each day with care, compassion, and just the right amount of competitive spirit.

Because at Child & Family Services, Building Better Lives is powered by people who bring their whole selves to the work with humor, heart, and a surprisingly intense love of game night included.

Being honest in therapy doesn’t always come easily. And that’s okay. It can take time to build trust and feel comfortable sharing openly.

But when you’re able to be real about what you’re thinking, feeling, and experiencing, it creates space for deeper understanding, stronger support, and more meaningful progress. Therapy isn’t about saying the “right” things. It’s about showing up as you are.

If you’ve been thinking about getting connected to support, our intake team is here to help you take that first step. Give us a call at (989) 790-7500 to learn more or get started.

Because at Child & Family Services, we believe Building Better Lives starts with safe spaces, honest conversations, and the support to grow.

Sexual orientation is NOT consent.

During Pride Month (and every month, really), it’s important to challenge harmful myths and misconceptions about the LGBTQIA+ community. Including the false and damaging belief that someone’s identity, expression, or orientation implies consent.

BECAUSE IT DOESN’T.

Consent is clear, mutual, and ongoing. It is never assumed based on who someone is, how they identify, or who they love.

These conversations matter. They help break down stigma, support survivors, and create safer, more respectful communities for everyone.

If you or someone you know has been impacted by sexual violence, you are not alone. Support is available, free, confidential, and on your terms.
