Looking for a fun, engaging, and enriching summer experience for your child? Join the Houghton-Jones Neighborhood Association's 2026 Summer Enrichment Program!

Our Summer Enrichment Program offers youth a safe, supportive, and exciting environment filled with educational activities, arts, music, leadership development, recreation, crafts, guest presenters, field trips, and hands-on learning experiences throughout the summer.

✨ EXCITING SUMMER COLLABORATION WITH UNITED WE GO! ✨

This summer, HJNA is partnering with United We Go to bring two unique youth opportunities to our community:

🎙️ Voice of Youth Podcast Program (Ages 10+)
Youth will learn communication skills, media literacy, interviewing techniques, storytelling, confidence-building, and podcast production while creating youth-led content and sharing their voices with the community.

👠 I AM Youth Fashion Program (Ages 4-17)
Youth will build confidence, positive self-image, social skills, and runway presence while participating in fashion-focused activities that culminate in a live fashion showcase on July 30, 2026.

📣 IMPORTANT:
Youth must be enrolled in the HJNA Summer Enrichment Program to participate in these specialty programs.

When completing the Summer Enrichment registration form, simply indicate if your child is interested in the Podcast Program and/or Fashion Program. Families who express interest will receive the additional program application and details.

🎉 Happy Birthday to Hazel R. Wilson! 🎉

Today, we proudly celebrate Hazel R. Wilson, one of the founders of the Houghton-Jones Neighborhood Association and a true community visionary.

What began as an after-school program and neighborhood task force grew into an organization that has served generations of residents in the Houghton-Jones neighborhood. From the very beginning, Hazel understood the importance of investing in children and creating opportunities that would bring neighbors together.

When reflecting on the early days of HJNA, Hazel shared how proud she is that the organization grew from those humble beginnings. Her vision centered on supporting youth, strengthening families, and fostering a true sense of community among residents—a vision that continues to guide our work today.

Because of leaders like Hazel, countless children have had access to positive programs, families have found support, and neighbors have come together to build a stronger community.

Today, as we celebrate her birthday, we also celebrate her legacy, her dedication, and the lasting impact she has made on the Houghton-Jones neighborhood.

Thank you, Hazel, for your leadership, your vision, and your unwavering commitment to this community. We are honored that a room within our building bears your name and serves as a daily reminder of the foundation you helped build.

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, and members of the Houghton Jones Neighborhood Association announce the passing of our beloved Treasurer, mentor, advocate, and friend, Ceciel Reed.

Mrs. Reed was more than a dedicated board member; she was a pillar of strength, wisdom, and leadership within our organization and throughout the community. Her unwavering commitment to improving the lives of others, fostering neighborhood pride, and supporting HJNA's mission left an indelible mark on everyone privileged to know and work alongside her.

As Treasurer, Mrs. Reed faithfully served HJNA with integrity, professionalism, and a deep sense of responsibility. Her guidance helped strengthen our organization and ensured that countless programs, events, and initiatives continued to benefit the families and residents we serve.

Beyond her official role, Ceciel was a mentor, encourager, and friend to many. She generously shared her knowledge, offered guidance during difficult decisions, and continuously inspired others through her compassion and dedication to service.

We are especially grateful that we had the opportunity to recognize and celebrate Mrs. Reed's contributions at the Christina Jones Women's Tea Brunch earlier this year. Her legacy of service, resilience, leadership, and love for community will continue to inspire our work for years to come.

Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by her remarkable presence.

Though she may no longer walk beside us, her impact will forever remain woven into the fabric of HJNA and the community she loved so dearly.

What an AMAZING time at our latest Mommy May I Workshop! 💕✨

This workshop was full of creativity, laughter, and bonding as our mothers and daughters made their own candles, lip gloss, and sugar scrubs together! 🕯️💄🧴 From choosing scents and colors to mixing and creating, everyone had so much fun and left with handmade goodies and beautiful memories.

There’s something special about creating together, learning together, and simply enjoying quality time together. Thank you to everyone who came out and made this workshop such a success! 💗

We truly look forward to doing this again and continuing to create safe, fun, and empowering experiences for families in our community.

What an AMAZING evening at our Women’s Health Forum! 💜

We had a wonderful turnout filled with powerful conversations, valuable health information, community connection, and uplifting support for women throughout our community.

A huge THANK YOU to our incredible guest speakers, Mary Rivera, RN, Director of School Health Services, and Laneise Haulcy-Collier, Doula & Perinatal Services Manager from "greatlakesbayhealthcenters.org" , for sharing their knowledge, expertise, and passion surrounding women’s wellness, maternal health, and community care.

Thank you to every woman, partner, volunteer, and supporter who attended and helped make this event meaningful and impactful. Events like this remind us how important it is to create safe spaces where women can learn, grow, ask questions, and prioritize their health.

This was more than just a forum — it was a night of empowerment, education, and community. ✨
