Last year, through Biblioboard, the Local History and Genealogy department uploaded 10,000 images to our Saginaw History collection. If you haven’t checked them out yet, please do! There are some really wonderful images from the library’s holdings, and we’d love to show them off to more people. But we’d also like to see Saginaw history through more people’s eyes. To that end, we’re starting a crowdsourced collection of images. The public can upload images to our site (the process only takes a couple minutes), and then library staff will vet them for content and quality. By doing this, we’re hoping to expand our digital collection without having to house the physical copies. Community members still retain full ownership of their images and stories – submitting them to the library just allows us to showcase them online. Photos from the 1800s until yesterday, from anywhere in Saginaw County, about nearly any subject – we’re hoping for lots of photos and stories!
If you have photos taken in Saginaw County that you would be interested in sharing, we’d love to feature staff pictures for an “opening day” collection. Between now and June 18, go to https://saginawlibrary.librariesshare.com/saginawchronicles/ and submit your photos. We’ll get them updated and ready to go for our anticipated launch day of July 4, so we can show off the possibilities to the public. Thanks!
