Meet Your Saginaw FD Firefighters: David Walker – Captain, Station 1, C Shift 🚒
"I began my fire service career on February 22, 2005, with the Lake Worth Fire Department. On July 24, 2009, I joined the Saginaw Fire Department, where I currently serve as a Captain assigned to Truck 114/Engine 114 out of Station 1.
My primary responsibility is responding to all types of emergencies, from medical calls to structure fires and everything in between. As the officer on the apparatus, I lead my crew on emergency scenes and help ensure the safety of both the public and our firefighters. When the Battalion Chief is away due to vacation or illness, I step into that role and perform his duties as needed.
I am a third-generation firefighter. Both my grandfather and great-grandfather served as firefighters in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Their legacy, combined with my passion for helping others, inspired me to pursue a career in the fire service.
Throughout my career, I have earned numerous certifications. Technical rescue is one of my favorite disciplines, and I am also a Certified Paramedic. I find great fulfillment in caring for sick and injured patients and have been fortunate to experience many rewarding moments helping people during their times of need. I also have the honor of serving on the Saginaw Honor Guard.
Life at the fire station is always busy. Daily activities include training, station maintenance, apparatus and equipment inspections, public education events, and station tours. One of the most rewarding aspects of this profession is the strong bond we build with one another. We spend nearly one-third of our lives together, sharing not only the challenges of the job but also birthdays, holidays, and many of life’s important moments.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I am recently engaged to my best friend and the love of my life, Sara. My favorite hobby is golf, and I spend several days each week either practicing or playing.
The motto I strive to live by is simple: treat others the way you would like to be treated. God shows us amazing grace, and I believe we should extend that same grace and kindness to everyone we encounter.”
