🔥Wildfire Update🔥

Hello Bonner County! Effective immediately, the fire danger level locally has been upgraded to MODERATE. If you have a current burn permit with IDL, they will honor the terms until its expiration. Please burn very carefully. If you are seeking a burn permit from IDL, it will come with additional restrictions.

Additionally, the national wildfire preparedness level has been elevated to Planning Level 3 (PL3) as demands for resources significantly increase.

Fire activity has increased this week as expected. Please be fire safe and make sure you have planned for the next big wildfire in your community.

🔥Wildfire Situation Report, 06/15/26🔥

Last week saw lower fire activity nationally. However, this week is already picking up steam with moderate risk of large fires for most of the Great Basin, Southwest, and Rocky Mountain Regions. High winds and Red Flag conditions will persist in much of the west as well.

Locally, we are seeing multiple days with moderate risk for large fires with increasing temperatures and minimal precipitation.

Check out this week's Situation Report for more information.

🚒Selkirk Fire Enhances Fire Season Staffing🚒

Fire season is on the horizon, and Selkirk Fire is enhancing our resources in preparation. Today, we are excited to announce our seasonal firefighter deployment. This summer, we will have an additional brush engine and water tender staffed in the fire districts.

These crews will be assigned to our Careywood Fire Station, bringing some resources back to the south side of the county. The fire station will be staffed Wednesday through Saturday from 9AM-7PM. Unlike our community based fire engines, these units will spend their days throughout the districts on project work and other wildland fire prevention responsibilities.

Our wildland firefighters staff specialized units assigned to our Wildfire Division. They will assist our all-hazard crews when appropriate, however their primary duties surround wildland firefighting. These resources may be requested by Idaho Department of Lands to assist on wildfires throughout the region.

The Wildfire Division is funded primarily by wildfire deployment reimbursement funds. This program allows for creative staffing concepts that increase services with minimal impact to our standard budget.

We would like to thank the Fire Commissioners from the three districts for their support of the Wildfire Division and their vision for enhancing services to the community.

🔥Wildfire Situation Report, 06/08/26🔥

The West is heating up, and this could be a crucial week for fire early season fire behavior. The Southwest and Great Basin could see red flag warnings throughout the week. Fuels and weather are coming into alignment and that will create aggressive fire behavior.

The National Interagency Fire Center has noted 2026 burned more acreage before June than any year in the last ten years. We have already burned almost half of last year's total acres. Some predictive services believe we could see 8 million acres burn this year.

Check out the Wildfire Situation Report for more details on recent, current, and predicted fire activity.
