Saguache County is seeking qualified design consultants to develop a schematic design for a new elevator and stair reconfiguration in the historic Saguache County Courthouse. The design will include a rated wall assembly to enclose the stairs and elevator. The professionals will consult with county officials as well as History Colorado to be certain the design meets all state building requirements and codes as well as regulations that pertain to preservation of a building listed on the state register of historic properties.

ATTENTION GRADUATING HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

The Saguache County Board of County Commissioners is accepting scholarship applications for graduating seniors who will be graduating high school in 2026. Commissioners will be awarding graduating seniors’ college scholarships that will be paid through the Ma*****na Excise Tax funds.

Scholarships may be used at a trade school, college or university but you must reside in Saguache County to apply and possibly receive scholarship funds.

Applications are due by May 22, 2026, and are available through our website at www.saguachecounty.colorado.gov to download the application or by contacting Wendi Maez at 719-655-2231 or by email at [email protected].

Older Americans Month Proclamation

Saguache County offices will remain open and operating under normal business hours on Wednesday, April 22, 2026.

At this time, the County is not scheduled for a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS). However, due to current weather conditions and elevated wildfire risk, there remains a possibility of unexpected outages.

Please note: County operations may be adjusted or offices may close early if conditions change.

Updates will be provided as needed.

Saguache County Department of Social Services Announces Closure of Center Office

Saguache County, CO — The Saguache County Department of Social Services (DSS) announces the permanent closure of its office located in Center, Colorado.
The County has determined that consolidating DSS operations into a single location is necessary to improve oversight, streamline processes, and ensure the highest quality of service for residents throughout Saguache County. Managing multiple office sites has presented ongoing challenges, and this consolidation will help the department remain compliant with state guidelines while maintaining responsible budgeting practices.
This decision was made with careful consideration. The County recognizes that the closure may impact some community members, and DSS remains committed to supporting all residents during this transition.

To continue serving individuals and families in the Center area, DSS has installed a secure document drop box at the former Center office site, located at 220 S. Worth St., Center, CO 81125. Clients may use this drop box to submit applications and required documents. The drop box will be checked daily by DSS staff, and all materials will be securely transported to the main Saguache office for timely processing.

Saguache County DSS remains dedicated to providing compassionate, efficient, and reliable services to all residents. The department appreciates the community’s understanding and cooperation as these changes take effect.
