🚨 SCAM ALERT - WATCH FOR FAKE COUNTY EMAILS 🚨

Saguache County is reminding residents to be cautious of fraudulent emails impersonating County departments or employees.

📧 Always check the sender’s email address.
Official Saguache County email addresses end in:

-co.gov

Scammers may use the name of a County employee or department while sending from a completely unrelated email address. A familiar name does not mean the email is legitimate.

💰 Be especially cautious of unexpected payment or wire transfer requests. Saguache County will rarely request payment by wire transfer. If you receive a request for a wire transfer or unexpected payment, contact the County department directly to verify the request before sending any money.

☎️ When in doubt, call us!
If an email seems suspicious, contact the department it claims to be from using a known phone number or contact information from the official Saguache County website at saguachecounty.colorado.gov.

⚠️ Do not use phone numbers, links, or contact information contained in a suspicious email to verify the request.

A quick phone call can help protect you from fraud.

🚧 PUBLIC NOTICE – Temporary Closure of NFS Road 787 and Surrounding Area

The Rio Grande National Forest – Saguache Ranger District has issued a temporary closure of National Forest System (NFS) Road 787 and the surrounding area near the South Fork Saguache Creek Wilderness Trailhead to protect public health, safety, and natural resources.

📅 Closure Effective:
July 6, 2026, at 12:01 a.m.
through
August 15, 2026, at 11:59 p.m., unless rescinded.

🚫 During this closure:
• Public entry into the designated closure area is prohibited.
• Motor vehicle use on the closed portion of NFS Road 787 is prohibited.

The attached map identifies the affected road and closure area.

Exemptions apply to authorized personnel, emergency responders, and individuals with appropriate Forest Service authorization.

Sales Tax Grants Available Now!

You know that idea you’ve been kicking around? Does it fall into one of the three categories below? If so….. it’s time to make your idea a reality! The Saguache County Commissioners invite you to apply for a Sales Tax Grant through our official website at https://saguachecounty.colorado.gov/saguache-county-sales-tax-grant To make it even easier……Individuals and Agencies now must complete the grant application ONLINE ONLY.
Funding Ideas Must Fall Under One Of These Three Categories! (Awarded Grants Range From $500 - $7,500+)
• Youth and Senior Services and Programs
• Alternative Energy Projects and/or Business/Job Creation Opportunities
• Emergency Services, Public Health and Safety
The Saguache County Sales Tax Grant was established through a ballot initiative that created a fund to distribute to individuals, groups and organizations to better the Saguache County Community as a whole. This funding is derived from a 1% sales tax on most goods sold in Saguache County.
Don’t hesitate! The grant application deadline is 3:00pm on Friday – August 14, 2026! All applications must be submitted by one of the following ways; ONLINE ONLY at https://saguachecounty.colorado.gov/saguache-county-sales-tax-grant to fill out the application.

🚨 STAGE 2 FIRE BAN NOW IN EFFECT - Saguache County 🚨

Effective immediately, Stage 2 Fire Restrictions are in place throughout Saguache County and will remain in effect until further notice.

The following activities are prohibited:
• Building or using any fire or campfire
• Smoking except inside an enclosed vehicle or building
• Fireworks, pyrotechnic devices, or explosives
• Operating chainsaws or other internal combustion equipment between 1:00 PM and 1:00 AM
• Operating combustion engines without an approved spark arrestor
• Welding or using acetylene/torch equipment with an open flame
• Driving or parking motor vehicles off designated roads except as allowed under the restriction

These restrictions are necessary due to extreme fire danger. Please do your part to help protect our communities, firefighters, public lands, and natural resources.

MAINTENANCE TECH

Experienced individual needed for maintenance services with responsibility for maintenance of Saguache County facilities. This is a Full-time position working 32 to 40 hours a week, with variable hours which include evening and/or early morning work times. Starting salary will be $18.35/hr. Depending on experience. The County Employee benefit package includes: vision, dental and health insurance coverage, paid time off, and a generous 401k retirement plan.
