The pilot of an aircraft assigned to fight the Gold Mountain fire died Sunday after their plane went down at a nearby reservoir, marking the fourth firefighter death in CoThe pilot's body was recovered from Silver Jack Reservoir by a dive team and transported to the Gunnison County Coroner's Office, the Sheriff’s Office said in a release late Sunday.

The crash was reported shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday. Silver Jack Reservoir is located northeast of the Gold Mountain fire. The plane was assigned to that fire, according to the Gunnison County Sheriff’s Office.lorado this summer. Sunday’s crash adds to an already deadly summer for wildland firefighting personnel. In June, three members of a helitack crew died in a burnover event along the Colorado-Utah border when a blaze there overtook them.

The Gold Mountain fire has burned more than 35,000 acres near the towns of Ouray and Ridgway since it began June 27. As of Sunday, it was 5% contained.
