Another active day anticipated across the region today, with the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms through the afternoon and evening. The strongest storms are expected to develop east of the I-25 Corridor, with the main threats being large hail and damaging wind gusts. Further west along the eastern mountains, storms will need to be monitored for periods of moderate to heavy rainfall that could once again produce flash flooding over area burn scars.

The National Weather Service US National Weather Service Pueblo Colorado has issued a Fire Weather Watch for all areas on Saguache County west of the Continental Divide. Red Flag Warning weather conditions are expected for the watch area on Thursday, August 6, 2026.

A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions
are forecast to occur. Listen for later forecasts and possible
Red Flag Warnings.

Low relative humidity values and increasing winds will produce critical fire weather conditions over the Central Mountains today, spreading south along the Continental Divide on Thursday. Please refrain for any outdoor activities that could spark a fire in these areas!

Heat Advisory again for the San Luis Valley today. Take precautions working outside in the heat.

Today brings another day of dangerously hot temperatures to the region. A Heat Advisory remains in effect for portions of the area today. Don't underestimate the heat, and continue to practice heat safety!

Extreme heat continues across the Southwest as temperatures may top 120 degrees. The heat may expand across the West and south-central U.S. into the middle of the month.

Air quality alerts and Red flag warnings are also in place across portions of the West. Exposure to both smoke and heat can be a greater health risk than either one alone – these strategies can help you stay safe.

08/02/2026

Today and tomorrow bring another couple of hot days to the area, especially Monday. Temperatures will be well above seasonal values, with record high temperatures possible tomorrow. Don't underestimate the heat, and continue to practice heat safety!

Increasing moisture will bring a risk of heavy rain and flash flooding to the central mountains today, especially over the Willow Burn Scar, where rainfall amounts as low as a quarter inch could produce flooding. Other areas of concern in the central mountains include the Chalk Cliffs region and Cottonwood Pass in Chaffee County, where heavy rainfall often produces flash flooding.
