Today is Volunteer Firefighters Recognition Day, and we're honoring the dedicated men and women who selflessly serve their communities.

Volunteer firefighters respond to emergencies at all hours, train year-round, and sacrifice time with their families to help others when they're needed most.

With heavy hearts, we honor the life and legacy of Salt River Firefighter Joseph Christopher, who bravely served the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community for seven years.

Firefighter Christopher faced job-related cancer with unwavering courage and strength. His dedication, compassion, and selfless service touched countless lives and will never be forgotten.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the entire Salt River Fire Department. May his memory inspire us all to STAND together in support of our public safety heroes and their families.

Rest in peace, Firefighter Christopher. Your sacrifice and service will always be remembered.
