⚠️🪫IT CAN HAPPEN TO YOU🪫⚠️
Lithium-ion batteries are powerful and convenient, but when they are damaged, improperly charged, or used incorrectly, they can overheat and start a fire. NFPA notes that lithium-ion battery fires are becoming an increasing concern as these batteries become more common in everyday devices.
Did you know you probably have more lithium-ion batteries in your home than you realize?
📱 Smartphones
💻 Laptops & tablets
🎧 Wireless earbuds
⌚ Smartwatches
🪥 Electric toothbrushes
🎮 Gaming devices
🧸 Toys
🔋 Portable power banks
🛴 E-scooters & e-bikes
🔧 Power tools
…AND MANY MANY MORE!
Take a look around your home today, you may be surprised by just how many lithium-ion batteries are powering your everyday life. The Rosenberg Fire Department is urging all citizens to Use your charging superpowers!
✔️ Use the charger and cord that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer.
✔️ Charge devices on a hard, flat surface, NOT on a bed, couch, or under a pillow.
✔️ Unplug your device when it is fully charged.
✔️ Keep charging devices away from anything that can catch fire.
✔️ Charge larger devices, such as e-bikes and scooters, in a safe location away from exits when possible.
✔️ Stop using a battery if it becomes unusually hot, swells, leaks, smells strange, smokes, or makes popping/hissing sounds.
So join the Rosenberg Fire Department in teaming up with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to spread this year’s Fire Prevention Week theme:
