𝟱:𝟰𝟬 𝗽.𝗺. 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲: Just after 3 p.m. this afternoon, SJSO responded to a bank robbery at the Regions Bank on CR210. The suspect fled before deputies arrived. Through investigative efforts, deputies located the suspect vehicle at an apartment complex on Peyton Parkway. The search for the suspect is ongoing.

𝗢𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁: SJSO is searching for a wanted suspect in an apartment complex off of Peyton Parkway and SR 9B. This is an active investigation, expect a heavy law enforcement presence in the area.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, St. Augustine Police Department, and St. Johns County School District spent the morning sharing coffee and meaningful conversations with Ketterlinus Elementary students and staff. What a great event!

🚨 SCAM ALERT: Deceptive International "Unclaimed Inheritance" Mailings 🚨
Attention residents! A community member recently received a suspicious letter and brought it to our attention. Upon review, this has been confirmed as a classic inheritance / advance-fee scam.
Please read the details below to protect yourself and your loved ones from falling victim to this scheme.

📬 Delivery Method: International Mail
• Mailed from Overseas: The physical letter was sent via La Poste (French International Mail), even though the sender claims to represent a legal/financial firm based in Madrid, Spain.

🚩 Red Flags Identifying This as a Scam
• Unsolicited Windfall: Claims €9,950,000 ($11 million US) was left behind by a deceased person who happens to share your last name.
• "Split the Payout": Promises a 50/50 split of the funds in exchange for your cooperation with no potential legal risk.
• Free Email Address: Uses a generic Gmail account rather than an official corporate domain.
• Demands for Secrecy: Asks for strict confidentiality to stop you from consulting family or police.

🛡️ How to Avoid Falling for It
• DO NOT Respond: Never contact the provided email or phone numbers.
• Never Share Personal Information: Do not send bank details, IDs, or upfront processing fees.
• Verify Independently: Legitimate banks, legal institutions, or government authorities do not contact beneficiaries out of the blue via unsolicited international mail asking to split funds.
• Talk to Family or Authorities: If you receive a letter that seems too good to be true, discuss it with a trusted family member, attorney, or local law enforcement before taking action.
• Spread the Word: Warn elderly family members, neighbors, and friends about these mail-based scams!

Sheriff Hardwick and victim advocate Ashley Mitchell joined law enforcement agencies across Florida in signing a custom 1971 Volkswagen Beetle dedicated to honoring first responders.

The vehicle was designed by Spencer Crutchley, in memory of his brother-in-law, a Lee County Sheriff's Office deputy.

Spencer is traveling across the state to pay tribute to those who protect and serve our communities. We are grateful he made a stop in St. Johns County and is proud to be a part of the mission.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center has renewed its certification with the Missing Kids Readiness Program (MKRP), a nationwide initiative led by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).

This program recognizes agencies that demonstrate excellence in training, preparedness, and best practices for responding to incidents involving missing, abducted, or exploited children. The SJSO Communications Center is one of the only 12 emergency communications centers in Florida to hold this distinction.

SJSO Public Safety Telecommunicators continue to show their dedication to protecting the children and families of our community. Through ongoing training and strengthened policies, we remain committed to serving our community at the highest level.

We are grateful for our continued partnership with NCMEC and excited to contribute to this national effort to keep children safe.

SJSO is hosting Teen Driver Challenge, a driving course sponsored by the Florida Sheriffs Association, for high school students.

The one day course helps teen drivers understand the rules of the road, enhances their driving skills, and improves safety and confidence on the road with help from deputies.

STATION 21 GRAND OPENING RESCHEDULED

Due to the anticipated inclement weather expected this weekend, the grand opening celebration for Fire Station 21 and the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office Substation in Flagler Estates has been rescheduled to Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 9:00 AM.

We look forward to celebrating this important addition to the Flagler Estates community with our residents, partners, and public safety family.
