🚫🔥 Burn Ban Continues 🚫🔥

5/11/26: St. Johns County has extended its countywide burn ban for an additional seven days.

County officials say ongoing drought conditions, combined with recent wildfire activity in neighboring counties and a lack of significant rainfall, necessitate continued restrictions. The prolonged dry conditions have created a situation where fires can ignite easily and spread rapidly.

Under the extended burn ban, all outdoor burning remains prohibited, including:

🚫 Yard debris burning
🚫 Campfires and bonfires, including outdoor fire pits
🚫 Unattended open flames

Residents are strongly urged to avoid any activity that could spark a wildfire, such as improper disposal of ci******es, use of fireworks, or parking vehicles on dry grass.

SE GA and NE FL remains in extreme to exceptional drought. Even with scattered rainfall and isolated thunderstorms anticipated this weekend into Monday, only localized areas will be on the receiving end of a brief heavy downpours, hardly putting a dent in drought conditions.

🚨 Red Flag Warning Issued for St. Johns County Amid Fire Danger and Severe Weather Threat

5/7/26 - St. Johns County is urging residents to take immediate precautions as the National Weather Service Jacksonville has issued a Red Flag Warning in effect from noon to 8 p.m. today due to dangerous fire conditions and an elevated risk of severe weather across the region.

Additionally, National Weather Service Jacksonville has identified a risk for severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind gusts of 40 to 60 mph, frequent lightning, and isolated tornadoes.
A combination of strong winds, critically low humidity, near-record heat, and ongoing drought conditions is expected to significantly increase the risk of fast-moving wildfires, particularly in areas east of U.S. Highway 301. At the same time, severe thunderstorms may develop later this afternoon and evening, especially along and north of the Interstate 10 corridor. Strengthening southwesterly winds will further dry out vegetation and increase the potential for fire spread.

The public should avoid any activity that could spark a fire and be prepared to take immediate action if conditions deteriorate.
