Did you know stormwater ponds help protect local water quality? 💧

While St. Johns County continues to experience drought conditions, protecting our waterways remains important. Stormwater ponds help capture sediment and pollutants from roads, driveways, and landscapes before they can reach local rivers, creeks, and the Intracoastal Waterway when rain does occur. 🌿

You can help protect water quality by:
Picking up pet waste ✅
Keeping grass clippings out of streets and storm drains ✅
Using fertilizers responsibly ✅
Never dumping anything into storm drains ✅

Inside Public Works- Division Spotlight: Road and Bridge 🛣️

The Road and Bridge Division is at the heart of St. Johns County’s transportation network, working every day to ensure our roadways remain safe, reliable, and well maintained. From neighborhood streets to major County corridors, this dedicated team plays a vital role in keeping our community connected.

Responsible for maintaining and repairing hundreds of miles of County roadways and sidewalks, the Road and Bridge Division provides a wide range of essential services. These include removing pedestrian hazards from concrete pathways, improving roadway conditions through pothole, resurfacing and shoulder maintenance, enhancing storm water conveyance systems, removing overgrown vegetation and debris from outfall ditches, mowing thousands of acres of vegetation and grasses and supporting rapid storm response with our always ready callout team. Their proactive efforts extend the life of County infrastructure while reducing disruptions for residents, businesses, and motorists.

The division also maintains bridges, culverts, guardrails, and other critical roadway components that support safe and efficient travel throughout the County. During severe weather events, Road and Bridge crews are often among the first to respond—clearing debris, addressing flooding concerns, and restoring safe access as quickly as possible.

Equipped with specialized heavy equipment and a highly trained workforce, the team approaches every project with professionalism, efficiency, and a strong commitment to public safety. Their work not only improves mobility but also enhances the overall quality of life for those who live, work, and visit St. Johns County.

The dedication, teamwork, and pride demonstrated by the Road and Bridge Division are evident in every mile of roadway they maintain. We are proud to recognize their contributions and thankful for the essential work they perform each day to keep St. Johns County moving forward.
