Recently our YLSJ students participated in our Law and Government Program Day! Students visited the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, St. Augustine Fire Department, and the courthouse, where they learned about local law enforcement, emergency medical services, the judicial system, and local government. They also had the opportunity to hear from local leaders and gain a better understanding of the people and organizations that help keep our community running.

This year, Youth Leadership St. Johns (YLSJ) welcomed 22 high school juniors from across St. Johns County for a year-long experience designed to help students discover their potential, strengthen their leadership skills and better understand the community around them.

The 2026-2027 program kicked off with Retreat Day, where students connected with seven young professionals representing a variety of career fields, explored career and personal development skills with local educators, and began building relationships with their fellow YLSJ participants.

Throughout the year, students will step outside the classroom and into their community, exploring areas such as health care, law and government, arts and science, education and local business. Through visits with local organizations and community leaders, they'll gain firsthand exposure to career and college opportunities while learning what leadership looks like in action.

We're excited to see where this experience takes our future leaders!

• CHIPP St. Johns – Learn how the Community Health Improvement Planning Partnership brings community partners together to address community health priorities, strengthen access to care, prevent chronic disease and improve mental and behavioral health throughout St. Johns County.

• H.O.P.E Box – Discover how H.O.P.E Box provides comfort, connection and care to individuals and families navigating grief after su***de loss. Through free, faith-inspired care boxes and thoughtful resources, H.O.P.E Box reminds those experiencing loss that they are supported and not alone.

• Habitat for Humanity of St. Johns County – Discover how Habitat for Humanity helps local families achieve affordable homeownership through new home construction, home repair and preservation programs and partnerships that create long-term housing stability.
• Florida Legal Services – Fair Housing Project – Hear how Florida Legal Services provides free civil legal assistance and learn about the Fair Housing Project, which educates individuals about fair housing laws and helps those experiencing housing discrimination understand their rights and available resources.
