RIP to my dear friend the great Mike Detillier.

Mike Detillier was the classiest guy in sports commentary. He was a walking encyclopedia of football and loved LSU and the Saints. He didn't produce a draft guide, he published the NFL equivalent of the Gutenberg Bible. And he was a dear friend.

In his last words he witnessed to our Lord, declared his love for country and Americana and family. We lost a great voice on football but Hap, Hokie, and Buddy regained a dear friend. Prayers for Linda and the rest of the Detillier family. There will never be another like Mike.

Have a safe and enjoyable three-day weekend.

And be sure to tip extra to those laboring on Labor Day.

Grateful that Archbishop James Checchio spent so.much time "Down the Road" today between the boat blessing at Shell Beach and then celebrating Vigil Mass at historic St. Bernard Catholic Church this evening. The former Jersey bishop confessed his grievous sin of having served as chaplain for the Philadelphia Eagles but has since seen the light and is a New Orleans Saints fan. A reminder that salvation is truly open to us all.

Many thanks to my kind staff for celebrating my birthday early as I would have other obligations on the day itself.
