***Main Street to Close Temporarily for the Arcada 100th Anniversary Parade Sunday***

The 100-year Anniversary Arcada Parade will be held on Main Street (Illinois Rt. 64) this Sunday, September 6th. Main Street will be closed between 5th Ave. (IL Rt. 25) east of the river, to 7th Street on the west side of the river for the parade. Police will implement a detour route beginning at 2:30 p.m. through approximately 3:30 p.m.

As a reminder, no parking will be allowed along the parade route on Main Street during the event.

Detour Routes:
• Those traveling west will be directed either north on IL Rt. 25 to the Red Gate Bridge or south to Illinois Avenue, then west across the river to 7th Street.
• Those traveling east will be directed either north on 7th Street to State Street, then east to IL Rt. 31 and north to the Red Gate Bridge, or south at 7th Street to Illinois Street, and then east across the river to IL Rt. 25.

Police and Emergency Management Personnel will be positioned at key locations to assist with traffic direction. Motorists are advised to expect delays when traveling throughout the city. Police remind drivers to use care and to be watchful for pedestrians.

In addition, the St. Charles Police Department may be utilizing a drone during the parade. Signs will also be posted at major entry points informing attendees that a drone may be in use for real-time monitoring to ensure participant safety.

Under State law 725 ILCS 167/5, police are required to give 24-hour advanced public notice of planned drone use. These drones will adhere strictly to FAA safety regulations during their operation.

***TRAFFIC ADVISORY***
The End of Summer fireworks display on Thursday, September 3rd, will be launched from Langum Park. The St. Charles Police Department advises residents and visitors that several temporary road closures and parking restrictions will be in effect to ensure public safety during the event. Officers, Public Works personnel, St. Charles EMA volunteers, and Kane County OEM personnel will be stationed at key locations on both the east and west sides of the Fox River to assist motorists and pedestrians.

The following roadways will be affected:

During the Fireworks Display (Beginning at approximately 8:00 p.m.):
• Southbound Riverside Avenue (Route 25): Southbound traffic will be detoured east to South 7th Avenue. Motorists will proceed south on South 7th Avenue and be directed west back to Riverside Avenue via Moore Avenue.
• Northbound Riverside Avenue (Route 25) at Moore Avenue: Northbound traffic will be diverted east onto Moore Avenue to South 7th Avenue. Vehicles will then travel north on South 7th Avenue to Illinois Avenue, where they will be directed west back to Route 25.
• Prairie Street Bridge: The bridge will close approximately 15 minutes before the fireworks begin and will reopen once the display has concluded.

After the Fireworks
• South 7th Avenue between Madison Avenue and Fern Avenue: The roadway will be temporarily closed to allow pedestrians to safely exit the east side of Langum Park.
• South 2nd Street (Route 31) between Prairie Street and Mosedale Street: This roadway will be temporarily closed to allow pedestrians to safely exit Mount Saint Mary Park.
Temporary Parking Restrictions:
To accommodate increased traffic and pedestrian activity, additional parking restrictions will be posted and enforced on the following streets. Motorists are encouraged to carefully observe all posted signage before parking.
• South Avenue from Riverside Avenue to South 7th Avenue
• South 6th Avenue from Adams Avenue to Riverside Avenue
• Madison Avenue from South 6th Avenue to South 7th Avenue and from South 7th Avenue to South 9th Avenue
• Mosedale Street and Horne Street from Geneva Road to South 3rd Street
• Brownstone Drive, Cobblestone Drive, Limestone Drive, and Bluestone Drive
• Horne Street from South 3rd Street to Geneva Road
• Edward Avenue from South 7th Avenue to Nicholas Avenue
• South 10th Avenue from Madison Avenue to Fern Avenue
• Fern Avenue from South 7th Avenue to South 12th Avenue
• Ronzheimer Avenue from South 7th Avenue to South 12th Avenue
• Moore Avenue (south side only) from Riverside Avenue to South 7th Avenue
• Devereaux Way (Public Works entrance)

For safety reasons, fireworks viewing will not be permitted on the fifth level of the west-side parking deck. Additionally, the area of Langum Park immediately adjacent to Riverside Avenue is not a designated viewing area. The Indiana Street pedestrian bridge will also be closed.

Motorists should anticipate heavy traffic before and after the fireworks display. Delays are expected, and alternate routes of travel are strongly encouraged.

Bicycle Safety Reminder:
Bicycle riding is prohibited on sidewalks within the Downtown, including 1st Street Plaza. This applies to both traditional and motorized bicycles (e-bikes) and scooters. Cyclists must dismount and walk their bicycles where "Dismount" signs are posted or where sidewalk riding is prohibited.

St. Charles Police Department joins statewide Labor Day traffic safety effort focused on impaired, distracted and unsafe driving

ST. CHARLES, Ill. (August 11, 2026) – The St. Charles Police Department is proud to be one of over 200 law enforcement agencies across Illinois participating in the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High. Get a DUI” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns this Labor Day. The campaign runs from August 14, through the early morning hours of September 8th. Officers will be out in force, focused on stopping impaired driving, enforcing seat belt laws and reducing other dangerous driving behaviors.

“Choosing to drive under the influence of alcohol, cannabis, or any other impairing substance puts lives at risk,” said Commander Rob Vicicondi. “Our officers will be proactively looking for impaired drivers throughout the campaign because keeping our roads safe is our top priority.”

Officers will also be enforcing seat belt laws as part of the “Click It or Ticket” initiative. Buckling up is the most effective way to prevent serious injury or death in a crash. Everyone in the vehicle — front seat or back — should be properly buckled, every trip.

In addition to alcohol, officers will be on the lookout for drivers impaired by cannabis and other drugs. Messages like “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Drive High. Get a DUI” are part of a statewide education and enforcement effort aimed at saving lives.

This local effort is part of a larger statewide campaign supported by the Illinois Department of Transportation, which administers the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns with federal highway safety funds. The initiative is reinforced by IDOT’s “It’s Not a Game” media campaign running across radio, TV and digital platforms to highlight the deadly consequences of impaired driving.

The City of St. Charles and St. Charles Police Department are aware of the concerns and noise complaints received during this past weekend’s event at the Kane County Fairgrounds.

On Saturday evening, amplified music continued beyond the time authorized by the City-issued permit. We understand the impact this had on surrounding residents and appreciate those who contacted us to report their concerns.

The City has addressed the violation with the event organizers and appropriate enforcement action is being taken. This incident will be documented and considered as part of any future application for this event.

We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we address this matter.

***Speed Awareness Campaign Results***

ST. CHARLES, Ill. (August 4th, 2026) – The St. Charles Police Department conducted a traffic safety campaign throughout the month of July reminding motorists to slow down to save lives. The speed enforcement effort was conducted by the St. Charles Police Department and other state and local law enforcement agencies across Illinois to reduce highway fatalities.

The results of the campaign are as follows:
• 19 citations were issued for Speeding
• 1 driver was arrested for Driving with a Suspended License
• 1 citation was issued for Distracted Driving
• 1 citation was issued for Operating Uninsured Vehicle
• 13 warnings were issued for various violations

The speed enforcement effort was made possible by federal traffic safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

***Results From Illinois Speed Awareness Day***

ST. CHARLES, Ill. (July 28th, 2026) – The St. Charles Police Department participated in this year’s Illinois Speed Awareness Day, which took place on Wednesday, July 22, 2026. The Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police (ILACP) coordinated this statewide initiative with support from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), and hundreds of law enforcement agencies across Illinois. The July 22nd enforcement initiative was partially funded through a traffic safety grant. Officers conducted 75 traffic stops during the enforcement effort, with the following results:

• 1 driver was arrested for Driving with a Suspended License
• 15 speeding citations
• 6 citations for other violations
• 66 warnings for speeding and other violations

Why Dedicate a Day to Speed Awareness?

Speed is one of the leading contributory causes of all types of crashes involving a motor vehicle. Speeding is not limited to exceeding the posted limit for a specific roadway; it also includes driving too fast for weather/road/traffic conditions. National trends suggest more drivers are operating motor vehicles with less regard for speed limits and surrounding traffic conditions. This type of driving behavior and attitude has resulted in high crash numbers, increased injuries, and fatalities.

Speed also impacts the severity of the crash, type and extent of the injuries, and the number of fatalities. According to NHTSA FARS data for Illinois, between 2023-2024, there were 2,228 fatal crashes. A total of 34.1% (760) of those crashes were speed-related.
