Kane County Fire Investigation Task Force

Kane County Fire Investigation Task Force Fire Investigation Task Force serving Kane County, IL since 2000 Since its inception in October 2000, the task force has averaged over 25 callouts per year.

By utilizing the scientific method to investigate and determine the origin and cause of the incident, approximately 30% of those incidents result in being ruled as incendiary. Of the cases presented to the Kane County State's Attorney's Office by the task force, every case has resulted in a successful prosecution. The Kane County Fire Chiefs Association directs the Kane County Fire Investigation T

ask Force (KCFITF). The team comprises members from MABAS Division 2 and Division 13 Fire Departments, the Kane County Sheriff's Office Bomb and Arson Unit, and the Kane County Sherriff's Forensic Investigation Unit. The Kane County Fire Investigation Task Force works closely with all fire and law enforcement agencies within Kane County. When called to do so, the Task Force assists and/or augments a fire investigation as directed by the Incident Commander at the scene.

As we awoke this morning, we were notified of the passing of West Dundee Professional Firefighters Union 4882 Captain Dan Kilian. Captain Kilian fought a courageous battle with cancer. Please take a moment today and remember Captain Dan Kilian and his family, friends, and the members of the West Dundee Fire Department. Our prayers are with you.

Dan's journey with the West Dundee Fire Department began on February 4, 2008. He was promoted to Lieutenant on May 16, 2022, and then to Captain on October 23, 2023. Throughout his 18 years of service, Dan has held various roles, including Union President, EMS Coordinator, a member of the Foreign Fire Board, and Pension Board member. He also participated actively in the Kane County Fire Investigators task force.
