Today was an extraordinary day filled with excitement for Willow and Eli as they won a thrilling Ride with a Fireman Day through their school auction! B-shift crew gave them an unforgettable tour of the firehouse, showing the trucks and equipment, sprayed water from hand-lines, demonstrating specialized tools, and granting them a memorable ride in one of the pumpers! We're overjoyed they felt the same happiness that we did having them with us today. 😊

🚨Announcement🚨

“ I’m writing to happily recommend Nick Via for firefighter of the year. Since joining the Fire district in August 2024, Nick has shown strong dedication, a great work ethic, professionalism, and a real commitment to serving others.
Nick is a go-getter who takes initiative and doesn’t wait to be told what needs to be done. He steps up, looks ahead, does what it takes to support his team, and keeps things running smoothly. You can always count on him to put in the effort.
He’s also very outgoing and easy to get along with, which makes a big difference both around the station and out in the community. Nick’s positive attitude has built strong relationships and creates a positive environment wherever he goes.
Nick is also committed to improving himself and his skills, consistently putting in the effort toward continuing education and professional development. He takes pride learning and growing in his role, which benefits both the district and the community he serves.
On top of that, Nick is a dedicated husband and father. He balances his work and family life well, and it shows in the kind of person he is- dependable, hardworking, and caring.
Overall, Nick is a great representative of what a firefighter should be and I strongly believe he deserves this recognition.”

Tim Wideman
Fire Chief

This is the letter Chief Wideman read Saturday evening at the St Clair Area Chamber of Commerce awards ceremony. Congratulations to Nick Via for being awarded Firefighter Of The Year 2025.

The month of April featured personnel training on vehicle extrication. A crucial exercise that requires firefighters to dedicate a set number of hours annually to familiarize themselves with evolving vehicle technologies and vehicle construction, tool capabilities, and patient care procedures. This training is vital for staying current meaning life-or-death situations. The training sessions were conducted in collaboration with St. Clair Ambulance District. We extend our gratitude to Vogelgesang's Towing and Recovery and Hoffmanns Towing for generously donating vehicles, enabling training for all crews. The partnership with these local tow companies is what made this possible.
