https://linktr.ee/cmsac - https://m.cmpgn.page/BXr6Xx?embed=4&script=0 Sexual assault can happen to anyone, anywhere; regardless of age, ethnicity, economic status, lifestyle, religion, culture, s*xual orientation, gender, or ability. Sexual assault is s*xual contact made without someone's consent. It can be terrifying, humiliating, and confusing. Childhood s*xual abuse, date/acquaintance s*xual a

ssault, same gender s*xual assault, s*xual harassment, s*xual exploitation, and human trafficking are some examples of s*xual violence. Consent means words or actions by a person indicating a freely given present agreement to perform a s*xual act with the actor. Sexual assault is illegal s*xual contact that is inflicted against a person without their consent or against a person who is incapable of giving consent. Did You Know?

- The vast majority of s*xual assaults are committed by someone the victim knows.

- Under Minnesota law, the county in which the s*xual assault occurred is responsible for the cost of collecting evidence during your medical examination at the hospital. The county is responsible for payment; regardless of whether or not you report to law enforcement.

- If the s*xual assault happened within 120 hours (5 days), it is recommended you seek services at a local hospital emergency room.

- In the state of Minnesota, stalking is against the law. Stalking has many of the same effects as s*xual assault.

- Safe Harbor Law: Any Minnesota youth 17 and under who agree to engage or are forced to engage in s*xual contact or s*xually explicit imagery/videos are eligible for services and protection from the law. Youth involved in the s*x industry are considered crime victims instead of criminals. This may include participation in prostitution-related activity, "survival s*x", exotic dancing, or po*******hy in exchange for a place to stay, food, transportation, drugs, alcohol, or something of value (or the promise of).

This week, our staff Bri had the opportunity to go to Washington D.C. for the World Without Exploitation Conference on human trafficking and exploitation. Speakers at the conference included Gail Dines & Mandy Sanchez from Culture Reframed, Aaron Parnas, survivors of Jeffrey Epstein, Yasmin Vafa with Rights4Girls, Melanie Thompson with Coalition Against Trafficking in Women International, and many more! Speakers shared innovative ideas on combating trafficking and exploitation in their communities in addition to the legislative wins that have been happening all around the country. 💚

Attendees of the conference were also able to attend the file reading room where all 3,000+ files from the Epstein case were printed and placed on bookshelves. The most touching part was the 1,400 candles that were on display to represent each of the survivors. ✨🌿

Overall, it was an impactful couple of days filled with networking, innovation, & learning!😊

It's important to learn the realities of what trafficking looks like in our communities. Typically, there are no chains, cages, or kidnapping. Trafficking looks like threats, false promises, dependency, or emotional pressure that make it difficult to leave. Recognizing that coercion can be subtle is essential to understanding how trafficking really happens and how we can better identify and respond to it.

Consent is as simple as tea! Tea and Consent Video Here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZwvrxVavnQ 🍵

"If you are still struggling with a consent, just imagine instead of initiating s*x you’re making them a cup of tea.

You say: “hey would you like a cup of tea?”, and they go: ‘oh my gosh, I would love a cup of tea, thank you’. Then you know they want a cup of tea.

If you say:’ hey would you like a cup of tea and they’re like: “Ahhh, you know I’m not really sure’; then you can make them a cup of tea or not but be aware that they might not drink it. And if they don’t drink it then, and this is an important bit, don’t make them drink it. Just because you made it doesn’t mean you’re entitled to watch them drink it.

And if they say: ‘no thank you’; then don’t make them tea at all. Don’t make them drink tea, don’t get annoyed at them for not wanting tea, they just don’t want tea."
