* At 756 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 5 miles east of
St. Francis, moving east at 20 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and half dollar size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage
to roofs, siding, and trees.

Cheyenne and western Rawlins Counties in northwestern Kansas,

.STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WILL IMPACT CHEYENNE COUNTY IN NORTHWESTERN
KANSAS THROUGH 815 PM CDT...

At 745 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong
thunderstorms 11 miles east of Bonny Reservoir, moving east at 25
mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and penny size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to outdoor objects is
possible.

This storm will remain over mainly rural areas of Cheyenne County in
northwestern Kansas, including the following locations... Wheeler.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.

extending from 7 miles southeast of Wauneta to 6 miles south of
Palisade to near Trenton to 4 miles southeast of Culbertson, moving
south at 20 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and nickel size hail.

IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT MDT /1 AM CDT/

The Kansas Department of Transportation plans to begin a resurfacing project on U.S. 36 in Rawlins County the week of August 24, 2026.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane while crews complete a mill and overlay on approximately 10 miles of highway on U.S. 36, between Road 11/Beardsley Road east to the intersection of U.S. 36 and K25 in Atwood.

Where crews are actively working, traffic will be directed by flaggers and a pilot car during daylight hours. Travelers should expect delays of up to 15 minutes. KDOT and the Rawlins County Sheriff's Office reminds motorists to stay alert, follow posted signs and refrain from using hand-held mobile devices in all active work zones.

damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles. Expect
wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

A line of storms are moving east-northeast through the area. The primary hazards are a possible 70 mph gust or two as well as Flash Flooding. Areas in the Blue Box should see the storms move in the next few hours.
