A huge “thank you” to the Bird City Fire Department for this great addition! 

Every improvement tells a story and this one is about service.

The new sign at the Emergency Building in Bird City now proudly reflects both our Fire Department and EMS. It’s more than just a sign - it’s a visible reminder of the people behind it.
Neighbors. Volunteers. First responders. The ones who answer the call at all hours, in all conditions, without hesitation.

This update helps create a stronger sense of identity for the building and the essential services it represents. It also stands as a symbol of the pride we have in our community and the commitment to keeping Bird City safe.

We’re grateful to everyone who played a part in making this happen and even more grateful for those who continue to serve. ❤️🚒🚑💙

Our statewide interoperable communication system tower in Cheyenne County is "down" due to equipment failure which is vital for our first responders when responding to local emergencies along with our neighboring counties and regional partners.
Especially with the current fire weather conditions and risk.
Emergency Manager, Ryan Murray, worked with the Kansas Division of Emergency Management through the state emergency operations center (EOC) for assistance and a backup resource solution to fill the gap until the local communication tower is fully operational again.
We are fortunate for the advanced planning and resources to be available when needed!!

FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM MDT /7 PM CDT/ THIS EVENING
THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING...

* WHAT...A localized band of heavy rainfall with 2-4" will be possible across Yuma, Cheyenne, and Dundy counties as multiple rounds of storms move through the area overnight Friday into Saturday.

* WHERE...Portions of northeast Colorado, including the following county, Yuma, northwest Kansas, including the following county, Cheyenne, and southwest Nebraska, including the following county, Dundy.

* WHEN...From 6 PM MDT /7 PM CDT/ this evening through Saturday morning.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Extensive street flooding and flooding of creeks and rivers are possible. Overnight flooding will make it difficult to see the
depth of any water.
