The City of Saint George, Kansas is a rapidly growing and progressively minded community located in SW Pottawatomie County (6 miles east of Manhattan) and is one of the fastest growing areas in the State of Kansas. The Police Department (under new leadership since 2015) has rebuilt from the ground up with integrity, professionalism, and a community based policing philosophy that works with the community rather than against it.

Get Ready! School is Back in Session on the 13th!

It's almost time to hit the books! Classes officially begin on August 13th.

As students head back to school, we'll see more kids walking and biking.

As a reminder, please stay extra alert during school hours. Keep an eye out for our crossing guards, mind your speed in school zones, and always stop for school buses when those red lights are flashing.

🚂 Big Boy is rolling through Saint George!

Union Pacific’s Big Boy No. 4014—the world’s largest operating steam locomotive—is celebrating America's 250th birthday with a historic coast-to-coast tour!

The train is scheduled to depart Topeka heading westbound on Thursday, July 23rd at 12:45 PM. Keep an eye out as this massive piece of railroad history steams along the line through our area!

⚠️ Important Safety Guidelines for Viewers
If you and your family are heading out to watch or photograph the train, please keep these essential safety tips in mind:

Keep Your Distance: Stand back at least 25 feet from all railroad tracks. The average train overhangs the track by at least three feet.

Trains Can’t Stop Quickly: A train’s speed and distance can be deceiving. Never cross or stand near the tracks as a train approaches.

No Trespassing: Railroad tracks, trestles, yards, and right-of-ways are private property. Please stay in designated public viewing areas.

Always Expect a Train: Never assume tracks are inactive—always expect a train at any time.

Drone Regulations: Keep drones at least 25 feet away from railroad tracks and adhere to all FAA regulations.

Protect Your Ears: Steam whistles and engines are extremely loud—hearing protection is recommended, especially for young children.

🚧 TRAFFIC ADVISORY: 4th of July Travelers & Downtown Construction 🚧

If you are planning to head to Wamego for their famous 4th of July fireworks display this Saturday, please plan your route home carefully!

We know that a massive number of folks travel back to Manhattan via Highway 24 and some like to cut through St. George. If that is your usual route, please be aware that we currently have road construction downtown along First Street.

With the sheer volume of traffic following the fireworks show, First Street is going to back up quickly and cause significant delays.

Our officers will be out working to keep traffic moving as safely as possible.

🎆 4th of July Fireworks in Saint George 🎆

As we get ready to celebrate Independence Day, the Saint George Police Department wants to make sure everyone has a fun and legal holiday. If you plan on setting off your own fireworks, please keep the city ordinance in mind.

Per City Ordinance (Sec. 22-8), fireworks may ONLY be discharged during the following specific dates and times:

Wednesday July 1 from noon to 10:00 PM
Thursday July 2 from noon to 10:00 PM
Friday July 3 from noon to Midnight
Saturday July 4 from noon to 12:30 am (Sunday morning, July 5)

Discharging fireworks outside of these specific times is unlawful within the city limits. Please be respectful of your neighbors and stay safe.

Hello St. George!

Our favorite (and friendly) Code Enforcement Officer, Lindsey, wanted to share this photo as a gentle reminder that spring is here, and with that warmth comes, well... this.

She wants to remind everyone that now is the perfect time to get ahead of the game and think about that first mow of the season. Getting a jump on it now keeps our neighborhood looking its best, and avoids the need for her to write you an 'I missed you' note later this spring!
