Hidden Lakes was just that.... a very hidden outdoor area with ponds, nature trails, wildlife, and an old cabin sitting on over 30 acres. It sits close to Highway 24 almost halfway between Manhattan and Wamego, Kansas.
In the past, maybe the 60's?, a Presbyterian Church )where my sis-in-law, Marcia was employed) owned it and used it for their church camp retreats. Joe Burr, an electrician in the Manhattan, KS area bought it and made the old cabin (where we currently live) into his one-room home. He let the scouts to use it when they wanted as a camping place and when not being used, allowed others to come out and go swimming in the old swimming hole. We purchased it from Louise Spain who bought it from Joe and raised the children there.
Our hope is that it once again can be a special place to make memories through camping, hiking, and other outdoor activities but we don't want to loose the history associated with this place. We've heard so many stories about the old camp and just want to get some of them written down so we can all enjoy them and add to them from here. We ask that if you have memories of Hidden Lakes, please add them to this page and let the fun begin again!
