Please join us in congratulating Tom Benson, recipient of the City Manager All-Star Award for June. This recognition reflects Tom’s hard work, commitment, and positive impact across the organization. Thank you, Tom, for all you do for the City of St. George.

I am proud to nominate Tom for the City Manager's All-Star Award. Tom is a dedicated and hard-working team member whose commitment to excellence is evident every day. Beyond his strong work ethic, he has taken several newer employees under his wing, patiently guiding them and helping them build confidence and skills. He is always willing to learn new things himself and generously shares his knowledge with coworkers, creating a culture of continuous growth and collaboration. Tom's deep expertise and unique insights have strengthened our department in countless ways. He is constantly improving processes, solving complex challenges, and driving better outcomes for the entire team. His positive influence is felt across Energy Services, and we are truly grateful to have him on our team. Tom consistently goes above and beyond, not just in his own work, but in lifting up those around him. He is the definition of an All-Star employee, and I wholeheartedly recommend him for this well-deserved recognition.

The City of St. George Energy Services Department has received three significant recognitions from the American Public Power Association:

2025 Diamond Safety Award

2025 Certificate of Excellence in Reliability

continued RP3 designation at the Platinum level.

These recognitions reflect strong performance in employee safety, electric reliability, workforce development, and utility operations. In reliability, St. George reported a 2024 SAIDI without Major Event Days of 18.955 minutes, the lowest reported value among Utah utilities in the comparison set with available data and well below both the Utah statewide average of 105.0 minutes and the U.S. average of 131.6 minutes. In addition, St. George has maintained RP3 recognition since 2006, demonstrating a long-standing commitment to high standards and continuous improvement in public power service.

That's the average time power is out for customers of the City of St. George. During a recent City Council meeting, members of our Energy Services Department were recognized for awards recently received. Those awards range from reliability of power to excellence in safety. 👏

Our crews are hard at work replacing an aged wooden pole with a cast iron pole on a main transmission line to help keep our utility system strong and reliable for the community.

This kind of upgrade supports long-term service dependability and helps us prepare our infrastructure for the future. We appreciate your patience as our team completes this important work safely and efficiently.

Power Outage Update:
Due to high winds, approximately 2,200 customers on the west side of St. George are currently affected by a power outage. Crews are investigating the cause, and we will provide updates as more information becomes available.

“I would like to nominate Barb Berrett for the City Manager's All-Star Award in recognition of her nearly 20 years of dedicated service as a City Engineer and the outstanding impact she has made on our organization.
Throughout her career, Barb has been an invaluable asset to the City, consistently demonstrating professionalism, expertise, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. She has played a key role in several important and complex projects, including the Slick Rock Sub Station, UDOT I-15 Transmission Line Realignment, and the Utah Tech Sub Station & Millcreek Battery projects. Her technical knowledge and attention to detail have helped ensure the success of these critical initiatives.
Beyond her project work, Barb is truly our ‘go-to person,’ someone we can always count on for answers, guidance, and support. She has a unique ability to step in wherever needed, offer thoughtful solutions, and provide steady leadership in challenging situations.
Her deep knowledge and collaborative approach have made a meaningful difference not only within Utilities, but across City operations as a whole. With Barb retiring next month, this is an especially fitting time to recognize her years of dedication, service, and the tremendous value she has brought to the City. Shoutout to our St. George Energy Linecrew for a job well done!

The crew set a new transmission pole in a tight location—working carefully around existing power lines to keep the system safe and reliable. This kind of work takes skill, teamwork, and attention to detail, and we’re proud of the dedication they bring to serving our community every day.
