Well, the 2026 Soldiers on Sleds Annual Appreciation Ride has come to an end. The weekend began on Thursday with checking in at Camp Shed Horn in Watersmeet, MI., where we unpacked our gear, unloaded the Sleds, and set up the Wedding Barn. Our evening meal was provided by Sue at Roger's Bar where we enjoyed light fair of appetizers and good company. The next morning, Friday, we ventured to the Cisco Bar and Resort, wrecked all our gear out onto the is of Cisco Lake and explored the world of Ice Fishing. Spenser, owner of the Cisco Bar, greeted us and served us some refreshments. Nope, although we had some bites, we did not catch any fish. So, back to the cabin after packing up all of our gear. Shortly thereafter, we headed to The Wild Turkey Bar and Restaurant, in Conover, and enjoyed a traditional Northwoods fish fry, compliments of Blaze, the owner. Then back to the cabin for the night. The next morning the group was greeted by our trail guide, Jim Boehm, and headed by sled to VFW Post 8400 where we were served a great breakfast. Leaving there we proceeded to Bauers Dam Resort where Donna Bauer, John and Kevin, proprietors, served us some delicious treats and refreshments. Leaving there, we headed over to the Energy Mart, to gas up and where Krista (owner) welcomed us with a big smile and greeted us with open arms. Thanks to The Energy Mart, Krista and all of her staff! Next stop, the Burnt Bridge Tavern for a pit stop and refreshments. Thanks to one of our strong supporters, Jim Kane, for helping out with that. Leaving there our guide, Jim, took us on a long snowmobile ride, ending up back at the cabin. We must have traveled close to 100 miles by sled throughout the day. The evening was spent with friends and family in the Wedding Barn, where we enjoyed some great Porterhouse Steaks provided by the Stockyards, and prepared by Mia and Frank Beaton. The evening ended with some games and great prizes all donated by our corporate and local business community. The evening ended with the drawing of our Packers Autographed Football, compliments of the Green Bay Packers. This was one by Mrs. Lisa Penner of St. Germain. A long day for sure and time for rest!
