Good Afternoon,

As of September 23, 2019 Bexar County ESD 12 has hired full time firefighters to serve the ESD 12 area of Bexar County and the City of St. Hedwig.
We have a total of 6 full time firefighters on a 3-shift schedule., They will work 48 hours on and 96 hours off. You will see 2 on shift at a time, sometimes you will see more due to still having volunteers. You will have a Captain and Driver on shift 365 days 24/7.
Many might ask if volunteers are going away? The simple answer is no. Volunteers are not going away. We would not be able to operate the way we do without them. Having volunteers still helps with staffing, to meet the goals of having 4 personnel on the truck to respond.
This is a big step for the district, but it helps everyone that either lives in district or anyone passing through. Please stay tuned as we have more exciting news coming soon.

Thanks again
Assistant Fire Chief / ESD Ops. Manager LJ Padalecki

Good Afternoon,

As many of you have noticed our name has changed from St Hedwig Fire ESD 12 to Bexar County ESD 12 Fire / Rescue. Over the last few months Bexar County District No. 12 has taken on another department within their area. Due to the ESD taking on 2 departments, which include St Hedwig and Lone Oak we felt that we should become Bexar County ESD 12 Fire / Rescue. This changes nothing to the response or how we operate, we are just one big department now running out of 2 stations. Don’t be alarm if you see new shirts, patches, or anything else, we are the same large team as before.

Thank you for your understanding

On August 4th around 1630 hours Bexar County ESD 12 was dispatched for a MV- Ped. Due to the call notes we requested Wilson D1 and D3 with blood products. Due to the mutual aid we have between us, a life was able to make it to the hospital. Great team work again between local agencies having automatic aid and mutual aid between us.

Early this morning around 0100 hours Bexar County ESD 12 was dispatched for a structure fire. Automatic aid units dispatched on the call with us were, Wilson County D1 Fire, Bexar County ESD 10, China Grove VFD, New Berlin VFD, and Schertz Fire. On arrival crews had heavy fire on the alpha delta corner. ESD 12 made a interior attack and knocked down most of the fire.
This is a prime example of quick response times and great team work between agencies.
In the end all firefighters went back home no injuries, approximately $150,000 dollars in damage to the structure.
Great team work by all.

Today Bexar County ESD 12, was dispatched for a hay field fire with baler on fire. Due to the drier conditions we are starting to see, we had Schertz Fire, Cibolo Fire, New Berlin VFD, Wilson County District 1 Fire, and Bexar County ESD 10 dispatched with us. This fire was contained to the property it started on, but threatened several homes along FM 2538.
This goes to show that while we did have plenty of rain through the spring months, it’s starting to show the vegetation is starting to dry out with the hot drier days we are having. Please be aware of your surroundings. It can take only a small spark.
Great team work with all the surrounding departments to accomplish one goal, Protect and save property.

07/10/2019

As many people are asking what the loud explosion was, Bexar county has had no fire or BCSO units respond to any calls related to it.
If we found out more information we will pass it along. Thanks

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!

The units have cleared. We had many county resources on this incident including DPS 107 from the air. Nothing was located during our search. The only thing we found was a person who was shooting off tanerite about the time the call came in.
Thanks for the Community coming together about the concerns of what might of happened.

Please avoid the area of North Lupon and East Lupon at this time as Bexar county sheriffs office and Bexar County ESD 12 work the area for possible down aircraft.

Approximately around 0100 hours Bexar county ESD 12 received a call about a commercial structure fire. Automatic aid departments were Schertz FD, Converse FD, Bexar County ESD 10, Wilson County ESD 1, and China Grove VFD.
First arriving units found fire on the roof of the building efforts were made to gain access to the roof. Extinguishment of the fire took approximately 30 minutes from the first unit being on scene.
The access to the roof was hard due to the false wall we encountered. You can notice this in some of the pictures, this type of construction can be dangerous to firefighters due to the drop off. The other issues we had was all the solar panels on the roof limited us access.
At the end of the incident the scene was turned over to Bexar County Fire Marshall’s office for investigation and determination of the cause. No firefighter injuries and no civilian injuries. Great work by all the auto-aid partners.

SAFE-D - The Texas State Association of Fire and Emergency Districts

Everyone, you are urged to call our representative and tell them to change the bill back where it DOES NOT INCLUDE ESDs. This will hurt many ESDs through out the state including ours. So please read and call tomorrow before noon.

ESDs in DANGER!
Contact your House member ASAP
to restore ESDs as "special taxing units"

A Texas House Committee is putting 8 million people at risk by forcing ESDs to limit their ability to address local needs.

If you do nothing else about the 86th Legislature, do this: CALL YOUR HOUSE MEMBER AND URGE HIM/HER TO AMEND CSSB2 TO PUT ESDs BACK IN AS "SPECIAL TAXING UNITS."

CALL BEFORE NOON TUESDAY!

Here's the situation: In the House version of "property tax reform," ESDs -- whose taxing ability is already limited in the Texas Constitution -- were not subject to artificially low limits on their ability to increase taxes. They were "special taxing units" along with hospital districts and community college districts.

The Senate-passed version excluded some ESDs -- with less than $15 million in annual property tax and sales tax receipts, but even those exempt would be subject to inflation-creep. The House Ways and Means Committee took a bad bill and made it worse. Its version of SB2 put ESDs back in the mix with big-time governments like Dallas and Harris County and added complex calculations that make it tough to know what rate a local government can set.

That version is going to the House Floor. It needs to be amended. ESD interests across the state are backing Rep. Ryan Guillen's amendment to protect already-strapped ESDs from further erosion of their ability to address local needs.

Call your representative and urge support for the Guillen Amendment. Put ESDs back in as "special taxing units."

Just FYI everyone.

Large Brush Fire in the Kingsbury Area with MULTIPLE DEPARTMENTS responding including New Berlin. Right now over 100 acres are currently burning!

Please say a prayer for all the firefighters and departments involved in this fire. Fighting fire in this humidity and heat is very dangerous.

We are still EXTREMELY DRY and please use caution when working outdoors. It takes just one spark to start a fire! Stay Safe!
