Structure protection for private residences threatened by the Glass Fire

Klump Pumps do not need to be flown by helicopter to be useful. Two pumps are currently being staged to protect properties in Napa from the Glass Fire.

The Klump Pump has a special relationship with aerial firefighting helicopters. It is difficult to describe (to one who has never seen it in person) the feeling of admiration and respect that overtakes you when watching aerial initial attack.

Pictured are a great group of firefighters and crew members from all over the country. Although reluctant to be photographed for social media, they were kind enough to allow me to take pictures with their beautiful helicopters. Thank you to Andrew Brennan, Charlie Rudacille, Declan Grandalder, Jeff Smischny, Armando S., Levi Meyer, Ed Coleman, Jeff McLeod, Scott Johnson, Daryl Jones Winston Wheeler, Luke Baldwin, and pilots Kurt Hannemann, Alex Potter-Cogan, Theresa LaRue and Jeff ("Jefe" by the surrounding jokers) Brenhaug. Also, thank you to Jason who put up with my over-enthusiastic loitering at the helibase (although he's not pictured). It was an honor to spend time with all of you!

There are currently pumps out on the Red Salmon Complex, North Complex, BTU Lightning Complex and Dolan Fire. That being said, we still have additional pumps available for use.

We were able to visit the Gen. William J. Fox Airfield in Lancaster. Pictured (with us) are some of the heroes flying this beautiful Sikorsky Skycrane and fighting these blazes. Thank you to these individuals (some of who worked with Jim Klump): Peter Jansen, pilot Vic Johnson, Curt Warner, Larry Case, Herlyn Melendez, Hernan Sotela.

The Klump Pump is an all in one tank, hose and pump fire suppression system. The Klump Pump was designed to be flown by a type 2 helicopter into remote locations that typical fire engines can’t access, giving the boots on the ground (smoke jumpers, hot shot crews etc) access to a 1000 gallon water source that can be refilled by helicopter. The uses and advantages are limitless, for example:
- Initial and extended attack
- mop up
- structure protection
- reinforce safety zones
- fill in on dozer line
- deliver water & additives where typical methods can’t reach
- fly it to the top of a ridge & use gravity to your advantage
The Klump Pump comes with 2,200 ft of hose, fittings, and 6 gallons of foam and fuel.
