Join us for French Club every Monday at Rianda House from 9:30-11:00 with Skip and Sue Hopgood!

"We allowed our early school education in French to wither away until we discovered the joys of cycling in France. After a couple shorter trips in the nineties, we purchased bikes that could come apart and travel as luggage so we could travel on our own to France for more than a month at a time. This raised the bar on the level of French we needed for our bike touring. We found the Rianda French Club led by the remarkable Lynn Fontaine. We have lost members to time, so we took up the task of showing up each week to be there for the group. During Covid, our small group continued to meet at home outdoor spaces and at Lyman Park, before returning to Rianda House once it reopened.

Since then, the group has grown with members of all skill levels from native speakers to French teachers to Duolingo newbies to those who studied French in high school and/or college. Everyone brings something unique to the table with members contributing their French speaking skills, their knowledge of life in the Napa Valley, their travels in France and throughout the world, their life experiences, their hobbies, their interest in one another and their sense of humor."

Join us tomorrow, Wednesday September 9 at 4:15 for Music Appreciation by Laura Prichard. These talks will supplement the upcoming Rianda House cultural trip to Finland. All are welcome, as we explore ancient indigenous sounds, literary works, classical composers and folks music/dance from this vibrant, independent country.

Laura has personally been lucky to study the indigenous languages of Native Hawaiʻian, Hawaiʻian Pidgin, and Reo Māohi (indigenous Tahitian), and to be brought up in a French-speaking (Cajun/Acadien) family. She just spent the last month in French Polynesia.

Laura sang Finnish music professionally in the contemporary-music choir Volti, after its director, Robert Geary, took several of his advanced youth choirs (Piedmont Choirs) to competitions in Sweden, Estonia, and Finland.

Becky Jo Peterson has been doing choreography for 40+ years and we have had the pleasure of having her teach for Rianda House for six years! Outside of teaching dance, Becky Jo loves to travel, be with her husband, Ed, and her grandchildren!

Join us for a hike at Bothe State Park on Tuesday, August 18 at 9:00am led by Kerry Brackett!

Kerry began her fitness journey 41 years ago and started teaching in the 80's when the "aerobics craze" began - thanks to Jane Fonda! As the years went on and much research was done in the world of fitness, she learned that she loved sharing information that can help others get healthy. She is always inspired to learn all things regarding health & wellness and share with her participants. Kerry is also on the board at Napa State Parks. Thank you for all that you do, Kerry!
