Hood and Portland to Coast Relays are this Friday and Saturday, August 28-29, 2026.

The route does not pass through St. Helens city limits, but it does run just outside our city. Exchanges are at Warren Baptist Church and the Columbia County Fairgrounds which is a major van exchange.

Watch for runners, walkers, and their support vehicles as they use the following roads:

→ Church Road (Exchange at Warren Baptist Church)
→ South Bachelor Flat Road
→ Saulser Road (Major exchange at Columbia County Fairgrounds)
→ Sykes Road

The St. Helens City Council recognized City employees Jesse Templin and Jamie Edwards for their years of service at today's August 19 City Council meeting.

Jesse Templin is a Utility Worker II who works in the City's Public Works Department. Jesse was hired in July 2006 and was recognized for 20 years of service with the City.

Jamie Edwards is an Accountant III who works in the City's Finance Division. Jaime was hired in July 2016 where she first served as a Utility Billing Specialist. She was recognized for 10 years of service with the City.

Join us this Thursday, August 20 as the Slicker Band takes the stage in Columbia View Park with boot-stomping country tunes starting at 5 p.m.

This free summer concert series is presented by Wauna Credit Union. The One-Eyed Kats play the final night of the season on August 27.

Columbia County residents should expect heavier traffic on Highway 30 beginning September 11 as drivers use the highway as a detour route. An ODOT construction project in Portland will close all southbound lanes of I-5 in the Rose Quarter for approximately five weeks.

St. Helens, Ore. – August 17, 2026

The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is alerting drivers that a significant portion of Interstate 5 (I-5) in the Portland metropolitan area will be completely closed for approximately five weeks, beginning September 11, 2026. The closure affects all southbound lanes of I-5 in the Rose Quarter, as well as the southbound I-5 connector from I-405 to I-84 and several on-ramps in the vicinity.

Drivers are strongly encouraged to plan ahead and use alternate routes into Columbia County and throughout the Portland area. ODOT is working closely with local agencies to minimize disruption, but significant delays are expected. Detailed detour information and real-time updates will be available through ODOT’s official website and local news outlets. During this time, Columbia County residents and travelers can expect increased traffic on US-30 (Lower Columbia Highway) as motorists reroute to avoid construction and related congestion. There will also be some overlap between the I-5 Rose Quarter project and the OR-127 (Cornelius Pass Road) bridge replacement between Scappoose and Hillsboro, which may increase delays for commuters.
