Did you know that reading over the summer is the single best way to prepare your child for a successful new school year?

Summer is a wonderful time for family, fun, and relaxation, but it can also be a time when students forget some of the skills they worked hard to build during the school year. Educators often refer to this as the "summer slide."

One of the easiest ways to help prevent learning loss is by encouraging your child to read regularly throughout the summer. Just a few minutes of reading each day can help students stay engaged, maintain important literacy skills, and return to school ready to learn.

Why is summer reading important?
✔Helps maintain reading skills during the school break
✔Expands vocabulary and strengthens comprehension
✔Encourages curiosity, creativity, and imagination
✔Develops critical thinking and problem-solving skills
✔Creates opportunities for meaningful family time and conversation

Looking for ways to make reading more enjoyable?
✔Visit a library and participate in a summer reading challenge
✔Try audiobooks, graphic novels, magazines, or e-books
✔Set aside a dedicated reading time each day
✔Keep a summer journal to encourage both reading and writing skills

Whether it's a chapter book, a graphic novel, an audiobook, or a family story at bedtime, every page counts. Together, we can help students continue learning, growing, and exploring all summer long!
