As warmer weather arrives and golf cart season gets underway, the St. Johns Police Department would like to remind residents and visitors that golf carts must be inspected and registered before being driven within city limits.

Getting registered is easy:

• Call Clinton County Central Dispatch at (989) 224-6792 to schedule an inspection
• An officer will come to your residence to inspect the golf cart
• After the inspection, bring your completed form to the St. Johns Police Department during business hours
• Pay the $60 registration fee and receive your city decal
• Decals must be placed on the lower driver’s side corner of the windshield

Residents who live outside city limits may also register through SJPD, but golf carts must be transported to the department and cannot be driven unregistered on city streets.

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and the St. Johns Police Department wants to remind everyone: eyes on the road, hands on the wheel.

Even a quick glance at your phone can have serious consequences. Texting, scrolling, eating, or adjusting controls can all take your attention away when it matters most.

Let’s work together to keep our community safe.

The SJPD has been made aware of scam calls in which individuals falsely claim to be SJPD Police Chief Kirk or other local law enforcement officials. In many cases, the caller ID may even display our official department phone number, making the call appear legitimate.

These scammers often create a sense of urgency, pressuring individuals to make payments to stop alleged criminal investigations or to pay supposed fines or restitution for alleged violations.

PLEASE REMEMBER:
Law Enforcement, including the SJPD, will NEVER contact you to demand payment over the phone.
Law Enforcement does not request payment via gift cards, wire transfers, or cryptocurrency.
Caller ID can be spoofed – do not rely on it as proof that the call is legitimate.

IF YOU RECEIVE ONE OF THESE CALLS:
Hang Up Immediately.
Do not provide any personal or financial information.
Contact the SJPD directly using a verified phone number to report this incident.

PLEASE HELP PROTECT OUR COMMUNITY:
Check in with friends, family members, and neighbors- especially those who may not use computers regularly or who may be more vulnerable- to make sure they are aware of this scam.

In anticipation of World Down Syndrome Day happening tomorrow, some of the team at the St. Johns Police Department are celebrating by wearing our craziest, most awesome socks today!

Why socks? Because chromosomes are shaped like socks, and on 03/21, we recognize the uniqueness of our friends with Down Syndrome on "3 copies of chromosome 21" day!

The St. Johns Police have recently seen an increase in Larceny from Auto incidents in our community during the overnight hours.

Many of these incidents are crimes of opportunity, often involving vehicles that are unlocked or have valuables left in plain view.

While we are trying to be proactive to identify and hold accountable those responsible, we are asking our community to also protect themselves and their property by taking a few simple steps to reduce the chance of becoming a victim of these types of crimes:
- Lock your vehicle doors, even when parked at home
- Remove valuables or keep them out of sight
- Never leave purses or wallets visible in your vehicle
- Never leave keys or key fobs inside your vehicle
- Never leave a firearm inside your vehicle

These precautions can significantly reduce opportunities for theft, while community awareness and prevention are key to reducing these crimes.

If you observe suspicious activity at your home or in your neighborhood, please report it to the St Johns Police immediately by calling Clinton County, Michigan 911 - Central Dispatch at 911.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day St. Johns!!!!!! While many will be celebrating with friends, food, and a little extra green today, we want everyone to do it safely.

If your plans include Green Beer or other St Patrick’s Day libations, please remember: Don’t push your luck- designate a sober driver.

Driving under the influence puts lives at risk, including your own. Our Officers will be on patrol throughout this holiday to keep our community safe.

Let’s keep St. Patrick’s Day about good memories, not preventable tragedies. Have fun, celebrate responsibly, and don’t rely on the luck of the Irish when it comes to driving. 🍀
