Today for EMS Week, we focus on safety. đźš‘

Eight seconds, 8 seconds. That’s all it takes for a normal drive to turn into an emergency call.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety video is a powerful reminder of why distracted driving is never worth the risk. As EMS providers, we see firsthand the heartbreak these crashes leave behind for families, friends, and first responders.
Distracted driving is more than just texting. Eating, adjusting the radio, using GPS, talking with passengers, reaching for something in the car, or taking your eyes off the road for even a moment can have life changing consequences.

As EMS providers, we respond to these calls far too often. Behind every crash is a family, a friend, a coworker, and a community forever impacted.

Stay focused. Stay alert. Make safety your priority every time you get behind the wheel.

Last night we hosted 2 The Rescue Career Survival Training. Mike and Anna a first responder and spouse duo as they share raw “boots on the ground” insight into how first responders work impacts health, relationships, and mental resilience and what you can do to address it. Mike and Anna demonstrate how a responder’s inability to manage the roller coaster of adrenaline and trauma may negatively affect
our safety, decision-making and one’s ability to communicate at home with family, parents, friends and your kids. We all walked away with tools to manage the everyday unique stressors and are better able to recognize the warning signs of post-traumatic stress and suicidal thoughts.

A huge thank you to Michigan Rural Health EMS Network for making this training possible for the first responders in our community!

Another huge thank you to St. Johns Public Schools on allowing us to use the middle school to host the training.

Happy Telecommunications Week to the calm voices (Clinton County, Michigan 911 - Central Dispatch) behind the chaos..

The ones who answer the phone like it's just another Tuesday, even when it's absolutely not.

To our dispatchers:
You are the true first first responders. Befrore the lights, before the boots hit the ground it's your voice that starts it all.

You've talked people through the worst moments of their lives.. while someone's yelling in the background, a dog is barking, a toddler is crying, and the caller swears ""it's not that bad"" (it is, in fact, that bad).

You somehone manage to:
- Get an address out of someone who ""doesn't know where they are""
- Decode directions like ""the blue house next to that one tree""
- And ask 17 life-saving questions while typing faster than any human reasonably should

All while we're out here saying, "Can you repeat the cross streets?" Like we were not listening the first time.

You are the steady in the storm, the calm in the chaos, and the reason help gets where it needs to go.

Also... let's be honest....
You've probably saved us from going to the wrong scene more times than we will ever admit.

So this week, we celebrate you:
The voice behind the scenes. The unseen lifeline. The calm we count on when everything goes sideways.

We hear you. We appreciate you. And we promise to try, just try, to listen the first time.

Happy Telecomunications Week from your friends at CAASA. đź’›

Last week our board voted to approve our budget for the next fiscal year including much-needed additional funding for our operations. We are so grateful for the community's support and are relieved we can continue to provide high-quality pre-hospital care in Clinton County. While the immediate crisis is behind us, we will now work on long-term budget solutions so we can always continue to be there when you need us!
