Vermont Urban and Community Forestry is working with the Agency of Agriculture, Forests, Parks and Recreation, and the Vermont Trails and Greenways Council to raise awareness among trail users about how they can help reduce the spread of invasive forest pests.

Our goal is to post the two flyers below at trailheads across Vermont.

To request one or both 8.5 x 11 weatherproof trailhead flyers for your region’s trails:

By May 21 send an email to: [email protected] with:
Number of each flyer you would like
Mailing address(es) for receiving them, or fill out this form

Flyer #1: “Clean Your Gear”

Encourages trail users to clean boots, gear, pets, and horses to prevent the spread of invasive species.

Why it matters:

Invasive plant seeds and jumping worm cocoons can hide in boot treads.
Hemlock woolly adelgid can cling to clothing, pets, or gear.
Spotted lanternfly eggs can be laid on camping equipment or vehicles.

Flyer #2: “Help Spot Tree-of-Heaven” (primarily for paths in the open – bike paths, rail trails, etc…)

Helps users identify and report Tree-of-Heaven—an invasive tree and preferred host of the spotted lanternfly.

Tree-of-Heaven grows rapidly in open, disturbed areas, including rail corridors and trail edges. Of particular concern in Southern Vermont.
The flyer includes photos and simple ID tips, plus instructions for reporting sightings to VTinvasives.org.

Thanks for caring for Vermont’s natural resources and recreation spaces!
