I have had the opportunity these past two days to participate in the annual conference for the Michigan Probate Judges Association.

In the Family Division our probate dockets often involve complex family questions and protections for our most vulnerable residents.

It has been an honor to meet with, learn from, and discuss this important work with many talented and experienced judges from across our state.

I have had the pleasure of working with Albert Mais as a colleague in various roles since I became licensed as an attorney.

I have worked with him and observed his work during my time as a private attorney, as Berrien County’s Chief Assistant Public Defender, and later as Chief Public Defender for Berrien County.

Since my own election as a District Judge and assignment to the criminal division, Albert has appeared in my courtroom representing clients on a number of occasions.

Without exception, he is prepared, knowledgeable, competent, and courteous. He has earned a great reputation as a successful attorney in and out of the courtroom.

Throughout his career, Albert has demonstrated the level of legal competence and ability, the demeanor and disposition, and the professionalism that will make him a great judge.

For these reasons, Albert Mais has my vote and my endorsement for the position of Berrien County District Court Judge.

Now that the election is over, I am beginning the transition to my new judicial role.

Thank you first to my wife, Monica, and our three sons. Thank you to all of my family and friends who have supported me over these many months.

As I promised at the beginning of my campaign, I am committed to always remaining a student of the law, making the hard decisions, and honoring this incredible responsibility.

This evening I spoke to the City Council and residents in the beautiful City of New Buffalo.

Over the last few weeks I’ve visited the Villages of Grand Beach, Galien, and Stevensville.

I have now attended each of Berrien County’s thirty-nine municipal meetings, met hundreds of our local elected leaders, and spoken with countless citizens of our beautiful county.
