After 31 years of dedicated service, Major Cade Thompson has officially retired from the Department of Corrections.

Throughout his career, Major Thompson has made a lasting impact on WRDCC and the people he has had the privilege to work alongside. His leadership, dedication, and commitment to service will not soon be forgotten.

We are incredibly grateful for the 31 years he devoted to serving others and helping make WRDCC what it is today.

Congratulations on your retirement, Major Thompson! We wish you all the best in this next chapter. You’ve certainly earned it!

COIII Shelden Rucker has been selected as WRDCC’s September 2026 Employee of the Month. Rucker was the 3rd Shift Sergeant of HU011 prior to his promotion to Lieutenant.

His leadership in HU011 strengthened rule compliance, reduced contraband, and improved daily operations. Rucker consistently took on extra tasks, mentored new officers, and supported unit initiatives.

Rucker’s reliability, professionalism, and commitment made him one of HU011’s most dependable assets.

Awarding COIII Rucker the September Employee of the Month is Assistant Warden Grace, who worked with Rucker as a Functional Unit Manager in HU011 prior to his promotion.

Scott Williams received the Life Saver Award for assisting an employee who was in the middle of a life threatening emergency. If it were not for his quick actions that outcome may have been much worse. From everyone at WRDCC, thank you Scott!

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Maxwell Grace to the Assistant Warden position at
Western Reception and Diagnostic Correctional Center, effective August 2, 2026. Please join us in
welcoming him to the position.
Mr. Grace began his career with the Department in June 2019 as a Corrections Officer I at the Western
Reception and Diagnostic Correctional Center. In July 2022, he was promoted to Corrections Case
Manager, and then in March 2025, he promoted to his current position as Functional Unit Manager.
Please give Maxwell your full cooperation as he transitions to his new position.

Yesterday Lt. Quattrocchi, OSA Madison, Sgt. Ulrich and Captain Finney went to InterServ. They explained the rehabilitation programs the DOC offers and all of the positive things available to help the residents here at WRDCC succeed.

The Restorative Justice quilters were asked to donate to the annual Elks Motor Rally for the Vets. They created and sent two beautiful motorcycle-themed quilts for their auction. Proceeds will be donated to veterans. We’re proud to be part of such a worthy cause and look forward to creating quilts for them again next year!

On behalf of Captain White, Brandon and Captain Chubick, Scott, I am pleased to announce the promotion of Shelden Rucker to the position of Lieutenant. Lieutenant Rucker began his career with the Department of Corrections on May 31, 2022. He was promoted to Sergeant on September 22, 2024. He is an active CERT member where he holds the position of assistant team leader.

Lieutenant Rucker’s direct contributions to the restructuring of housing unit 11 while continuing to relay information between not only his peers on other shifts but ensuring that the other shift zone lieutenants and captains are aware of the change being made in his area. Ensuring that there is seamless communication between all shifts shows his ability to effectively and decisively make changes and ensure that all staff are on the same page.

Lieutenant Rucker has shown during his time assigned to housing unit 11 that he is willing to assist his staff in any way necessary to complete the daily operations of the housing unit, as well as assisting other sergeants in their development into the role of a supervisor. During times of short staffing, Lieutenant Rucker has shown that he is knowledgeable in multiple different areas of the institution and is more than capable of ensuring that operations in several areas are able to be completed simultaneously in an efficient and timely manner, allowing the institution to continue to operate smoothly.
