We are aware of the leaking fire hydrant in the 600 block of Sycamore. Water is freezing in the street. Public Works has coned it off and will put down salt/sand. The water company has been notified.

Champaign County Regional Planning (RCP) administers the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) locally. I have a seat on the RPC Board and getting familiar with their programs - LIHEAP being one of them. The LIHEAP program provides financial assistance to people of a certain income level to cover their household energy costs. Normally, folks wanting to apply would have to make an appointment and travel to Urbana to apply.

However, the LIHEAP staff has offered to come to the St. Joseph/Ogden area and do a remote session to make it more convenient.

They will be at the Village Hall in Ogden on Thursday, March 12th from 3:30 -6:30 PM. Please see the attached flyer and income guidelines. If you want to know more, use the QR code or go to www.ccrpc.org/liheap

Winter Storm Warning issued by National Weather Service for our area!

Community Members – Please move parked vehicles off of Village Streets no later than 4 PM tomorrow afternoon (Saturday January 24th). The Public Works Department will need space to clear the roadways. The National Weather Service has stated:

“A long-duration winter storm will impact the region in two waves spanning late Saturday morning through Sunday evening. Snow amounts appear fairly light through the day on Saturday, with only an inch or two of snow (highest south of I-70), however, more accumulating snow arrives late Saturday night into Sunday.......... A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from Cass to Vermilion County and southward, with 5-10" of total snow being the most likely outcome.”

The Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning from 9 AM tomorrow morning until midnight Sunday. Please bring your pets inside, get shovels/salt ready, batten down the hatches and keep travel to a minimum. If you go outside – dress appropriately. Also, please check on your elderly relatives and neighbors in case they need something. We have all been through winter storms many times – you know the drill! Stay safe, stay inside, sit by the fireplace and stay safe and warm!

have posted the latest public safety report on the Village website at https://stjosephillinois.org/index.asp?SEC=9E067E0C-33DE-4D03-8032-78ECC590093A&DE=E3327CC5-51A8-4626-8715-BFFA22416A8B

We continue to be comfortable with the data and the activity it contains. It might look like a lot of things going on, but that is a bit deceptive when you consider it covers six months and compared to other cities our size.

On Christmas night, there were some car burglaries and one stolen vehicle which was recovered in St. Louis. Looks like the suspects were traveling through town and took advantage of unlocked vehicles. Even though St. Joseph is a safe town, locking your cars should be a priority.

If we ever get a spike in criminal activity, the Village always has the option to increase the amount of patrol. Would we like the numbers to be zero across the board? Yes, but with about 4,600 people covered by this report, that is never going to happen. We continue to work with the Sheriff's Champaign County Sheriff's Office to address issues as they occur. I feel that this is very safe community. As always, please reach out if you have any questions.
