Thank you to Persisterhood of Saint Joseph, Missouri for choosing to help our organization with a drive-thru donation event for diapers and infant hygiene products!

We are in need of diapers (especially larger sizes), as well as wipes, powder, and diaper-rash ointment.

Persisterhood of Saint Joseph, Missouri volunteers will be collecting women's menstrual items as well as and diapers and infant hygiene products in a donation drive-thru on Saturday, March 7 from 11 am to 1 pm. The event will occur in the parking lot on 10th Street adjacent to First Christian Church, located at the corner of 10th and Faraon in St. Joseph. Volunteers will also be on hand to explain and collect signatures for the "Respect MOVoters" petition drive.

Diaper and infant hygiene products donated at the drive will all go to the Diaper Depot at AFL-CIO's Community Services. “The birth of a child should be celebrated, not overshadowed by financial hardship. Yet for many vulnerable families, the cost of diapers creates ongoing stress. Diaper Depot helps alleviate that burden by providing free diapers and hygiene items to those who need them most. By hosting a diaper drive, partners like Persisterhood make this possible by ensuring that families can experience the early years of a child’s life with dignity, stability, and hope,” said Nichi Seckinger, Community Services Director.

The donated women's hygiene products will go to Sparkle Peach, Inc.--whose founder, Ann Irvin, will be helping at the drive-thru. Irvin created "Sparkle Peach, Inc" in St. Joseph in 2019 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Together with volunteers, professional nurses, and counselors, she provides women’s menstrual hygiene products to those who need them, and helps to educate girls about menstrual hygiene, infection prevention, available products and related health questions.

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Over $15,000 worth of toys were donated to the AFL-CIO Community Services center in St. Joseph.

In the midst of winter, many people in our community are struggling to stay warm. Through our agency's Seasonal Services program, we offer space heaters to those in need. However, a lot of people need help, and we need donations.

Space heaters can be dropped off at the agency, 1203 N 6th St., Monday through Friday.

Donations can also be made through our Amazon Wist List (QR code below).

If you cannot donate heaters but still want to help, we also accept monetary donations (QR code below).

This year marked an incredible milestone for the Adopt-A-Family Christmas Program; more than 100,000 individuals have been adopted since the program began back in 1983!

We couldn’t do this without the community. Your kindness and generosity continue to make a real difference, year after year.

As we look back on 43 years of Adopt-A-Family, we’re excited to keep this tradition going and continue supporting neighbors who need it most.

ALL FAMILIES HAVE BEEN ADOPTED!! THANK YOU AND MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

The phone just rang and it was one of our adoptees. She must have said "thank you" 10 times for all the items her adopters dropped off. She said it made her year. For at least 95 percent of our adoptees, that is the situation - what our adopters and donors do for them is the biggest kindness they have seen in quite a long time. They relish the unexpected generosity of strangers who give them a chance to start the next year far better than the last.

Currently, we can happily report that there are only SEVEN families in the adoption book or in the pending files (being looked at by a potential adopters)! All other families have been adopted or called to go through the Gift Room; the waitlist families are being scheduled to go through the Gift Room for their children. Because of the Gift Room donations that have come in the past two days, ALL of our families will be served!!!

This year has been like no other. In a typical year, enough monetary donations come in to cover the cost of gift cards, senior shopping, and other program expenses. This year, monetary donations are drastically behind. So much that it could jeopardize the agency's other programs if the Adopt-A-Family expenses are not raised by year-end.

It would be lovely if programs like Adopt-A-Family could be cost-free, but that is unfortunately not the case. Staff, temp help, printing, etc. Everything comes with a cost. If you believe in the the spirit of Adopt-A-Family, please help us ensure it, and all of our programs, will carry well into the future. If you were ever adopted, you know the difference this program can make; if you are in the position to give back, now is the time.

Any amount will help - from $5 to $5000 - it all adds up to a Christmas blessing for all!
