September is National Healthcare Fraud Prevention and Awareness Month, and Sept. 12 is National Report Medicare Fraud Day.

While prevention is important in the fight against Medicare fraud, it alone cannot stop all fraud. Finding or detecting issues and reporting them helps to stop bad actors. Report suspected fraud to the Senior Medicare Patrol toll-free at 877-808-2468.

Close family and friends provide most of the care older adults and people with disabilities receive. It's estimated that 1.73 million Michiganians provide an estimated 1.1 billion hours of voluntary care worth approximately $19.6 billion per year.

To recognize this contribution to our community, and raise awareness, each year Area Agency on Aging recognizes an informal caregiver who goes above and beyond caring for a loved one.

🎤 We are proud to host support groups like Transforming Dementia.

The hybrid nature of its group has allowed friendships to be built from hundreds of miles away. Earlier this month, group member Mike drove in from Wisconsin to spend time with the group in person! The group enjoyed conversation over freshly picked blueberry's at the Campus for Creative Aging.

Their next meeting is Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 11 a.m. Email Amy for more info or the Zoom link: [email protected]
