Region H Haz-Mat Designed to selectively build response capabilities of specialized teams using FEMA's Resource Type Framework based on risks in each region of MO.

The program is designed to selectively build response capabilities of specialized teams using FEMA's resource Type Framework based on risks in each region. Through partnerships with UASI regions and the state wide mutual aid system, the HSRRS provides WMD, HAZ-MAT, SWAT, Decontamination, and Tactical EMS capabilities. The HSRRS supports Missouri's overall Homeland Security program to ensure Missouri is prepared at the state, regional and local levels to respond to any WMD / CBRNE incident.

This weekend members of Region H Haz-Mat had the great opportunity to participate in a mass fatality training exercise with the NDMS Region 7 DMORT (Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team). DMORT members from Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska came to Buchanan County for the training. The DMORT simulated a small aircraft crash in a field. Regional public safety agencies in NW Missouri were able to participate some evidence identification procedures at the simulated crash site. And then learn about the processes that DMORT members use to process the scene and victims.

Monday evening, we took advantage of having the Missouri DNR with us at our monthly training night to run some real-world scenarios. We reviewed our incident command operations. We walked through our decon equipment and reviewed some operations. Team members also conducted two separate exercises on unknown drums. After obtaining samples, Ben from MODNR walked our members through using new equipment to help identify the unknown substances. It was a great night of reviewing skills and learning some new techniques.
