Buchanan County Road & Bridge reports the following roads are currently CLOSED due to high water and flooding:

• SE 123rd
• SE Mitchell
• 68th SE
• 112th SE
• NE 139th
• NE Hurlingen
• NE 85th
• SE Saxton Easton
• Rock Creek SE
• 80th SE
• SE Kemmer
• NE County Line Road
• SE Pickett
• SE 85th

Never drive through flooded roadways. Water levels can rise quickly, road surfaces may be damaged, and conditions can change without warning.

Please use alternate routes and allow extra travel time. Buchanan County Road & Bridge crews continue to monitor conditions and will provide updates as roads reopen.

The Buchanan County Courthouse will be closed on Monday, May 25th in observance of Memorial Day.

The Eastern District Road & Bridge Department began road maintenance operations on May 4th as part of our ongoing efforts to improve roadway conditions across the county.

Each year, our budget allows us to chip seal approximately 40 miles of roadway, maintaining a 3-year rotation. In recent years, we’ve enhanced this work by incorporating reclamation on about 20 of those miles—a process that strengthens the road base and extends the life of the surface.

What to expect:
Reclamation involves milling several inches into the roadway, reworking the existing material, and compacting it into a solid base. After a curing period, a new layer of oil and aggregate will be applied to complete the process.

Work is scheduled now through June 5th (weather and equipment permitting) on portions of the following roads:
Johnson, Horn, Buehler, Lake Vue, Holmes, Spring Holler, Muddy Creek, Ajax, Mason, Cook, and multiple segments of SE 130th, SE 135th, SE 140th, SE 144th, SE 123rd, NE 110th, and SE 112th.
