Join us as we partnered with the LSU Ag Center to learn traditional Homesteading methods for preserving meat through pickling, canning, and smoking. This hands-on program will share time-tested techniques for safely preserving food and keeping these historic skills alive for future generations.

Join us at Longfellow Evangeline SHS as we are teaming up LSU Ag Center to talk about Meat Preservation. Learn traditional homesteading methods for preserving meat through pickling, canning, and smoking. This hands-on program will share time-tested techniques for safely preserving food and keeping these historic skills alive for future generations.

We were pleased to host Jackson Blem's Eagle Scout Project here onsite: the creation and installation of nine new duck boxes in our lagoon, creating spiffy new habitat for Louisianas migratory waterfowl. We wish Jackson the best on his path to Eagle, and look forward to working with Scouts for generations to come.

Bob Borel's exhibition, "Mom Mom's: The Sacred Ordinary", is showing at Basin Arts in Lafayette until August 1! Artist Bob Borel has blended living history and communal art in this reconstruction of his Cajun grandmother's kitchen in Catahoula circa 1980 (which had not been remodeled since the 1950's). Thanks to Ranger Phil of Longfellow for his contributions to the this great exhibit and for moderating a panel discussion in the exhibit on veillées, a Louisiana French visiting tradition!

Join Ranger Philip Frey for a fascinating look inside a tree's story! Every ring tells a story. Can you read it? As part of the St. Martin Parish Plant a Seed, Read! Summer Reading Program, take a closer look inside a tree and uncover the history of its life.

Discover how trees respond to their surroundings and how they record their own history through each ring. Kids will have an opportunity to decorate a "tree cookie" to bring home.
