One week after Bradford Regional Medical Center closed its emergency department, that city's public‑safety leaders said they saw longer wait times at the Olean General Hospital ER.

The ER closure in Bradford has reshaped daily operations there — stretching EMS capacity, increasing call times and creating new risks for residents who once relied on immediate local emergency care.

🚑 Emergency Medical Services Week 2026 🚑

Governor Josh Shapiro has officially proclaimed May 17–23, 2026, as Emergency Medical Services Week in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, recognizing the vital role EMS professionals play in protecting the health and safety of our communities.

EMS providers, career and volunteer, are ready 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to deliver lifesaving, out-of-hospital care. Their expertise, dedication, and commitment to ongoing education and service dramatically improve survival and recovery for patients experiencing sudden illness or injury.
Throughout this week, we encourage Pennsylvanians to join us in honoring the hard work and accomplishments of EMS professionals and to participate in activities that recognize this essential public service.

Thank you to our community for allowing BRMC to serve generations of patients and families for 139 years as a hospital. While this marks the end of emergency and inpatient services, BRMC will continue serving the region as an outpatient center focused on primary and specialty care services close to home.

Today is the final day the Emergency Department at Bradford Regional Medical Center will be open. The ED will close tonight, Sunday, May 17 at 12 a.m.

If you experience a medical emergency after that time, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
