Our library provides creative and factual resources to meet the educational, informational, cultural, and recreational needs of the community. Marys Community Public Library (SMCPL) was started in 1921 by members of the Shakespeare Club and dedicated to the children of St. Marys "for the purpose of supplying correct reading matter to our boys and girls." Housed in one room of the Community House in Memorial Park, it was opened for business on June 14, 1921. During the summer, the library was open to the public on Tuesday and Saturday evenings and Wednesday afternoon and throughout the winter just one day a week, Saturday afternoon. On March 31, 1922, the Community Library Association was formed as a separate and distinct organization from the Shakespeare Club and the library operated under its auspices until it was recognized as a school district public library on May 28, 1935. The library moved briefly to 313 South Main Street before relocating to the basement of the city-owned post office at 103 East Spring Street, where it remained for 45 years. On Veteran's Day 1981, a new building was dedicated at 140 South Chestnut Street on land donated by the City of St. Marys and funded by a bond levy. Voters were approached and passed a levy to fund a building and expansion project to the building at 140 S. Chestnut Street in March 2000. The project was completed in approximately eighteen months and the building was re-dedicated on April 14, 2002

Patrons of the St Marys Community Public Library will discuss The Flight Attendant by Chris Bohjalian on Thursday, October 8th, 2026.
A library staff member will lead the discussion in the library meeting room from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Cassandra Bowden is no stranger to hungover mornings. She's a binge drinker, her job with the airline making it easy to find adventure, and the occasional blackouts seem to be inevitable. She lives with them, and the accompanying self-loathing. When she awakes in a Dubai hotel room, she tries to piece the previous night back together, already counting the minutes until she has to catch her crew shuttle to the airport. She quietly slides out of bed, careful not to aggravate her already pounding head, and looks at the man she spent the night with. She sees his dark hair. His utter stillness. And blood, a slick, still wet pool on the crisp white sheets. Afraid to call the police—she's a single woman alone in a hotel room far from home—Cassie begins to lie. She lies as she joins the other flight attendants and pilots in the van. She lies on the way to Paris as she works the first-class cabin. She lies to the FBI agents in New York who meet her at the gate. Soon it's too late to come clean—or face the truth about what really happened back in Dubai. Could she have killed him? If not, who did?

Writing Roundtable for Adults
The St. Marys Community Public Library is hosting a Writing Roundtable for Adults, designed to inspire creativity, foster a love for storytelling, and provide an engaging, supportive environment for aspiring writers of all levels.
The next program will be on Monday, October 5th, at 11:00 a.m. and is open to all adult community members, whether you're an experienced writer or a beginner with a passion for writing.
Dedicate one hour each month to your writing goals. Spend time writing or using the time to get ideas and/or advice. The Writing Roundtable will feature workshops, writing prompts, group discussions, and mentoring with peers and library staff. Participants will have the opportunity to develop their writing skills, explore various genres, and work toward completing a writing project of their own.

Preschool Story Time is scheduled at the St. Mary’s Community Public Library! Don’t miss this opportunity to enjoy the free fun and learning skills that are available for your child.
Children ages 3 to 5 are welcome to attend.
The program runs on Wednesdays from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m., starting September 16th and ending on November 18th. Children experience socialization, play games, are exposed to songs and stories, and develop learning readiness. It’s fun, too!
There will be NO Storytime on November 11 due to the library being closed for Veterans Day.

The St. Marys Community Public Library will host open sewing labs on September 16th and September 30th. Classes and labs run from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Geared for beginners and all levels of sewists and quilters.

Bring your own project to the Open Sewing Labs and questions to get tips from other sewists.

Everyone is welcome; ages 14 through 18 can attend with an adult.
The library will provide the supplies and notions needed.

The St Marys Community Public Library is hiring a substitute youth library assistant. This position will assist or provide programs and other library services for all ages of children. (story time, crafts, dance parties)

The library has had changes in staffing and may have more changes soon. The hours for this position will be as needed, after some on the job training.

Basic requirements:

• Must enjoy working with children and teens.
• Friendly, welcoming, and outgoing personality.
• Enjoys helping others and being part of the community.
