🌳 Please Help Us Take Care of Benzinger Park

🍩 We’ve recently had someone doing donuts in the Benzinger Park parking lot, leaving significant tire tracks and disturbing the gravel surface.

🪏 Our parks are here for everyone to enjoy, and unnecessary damage like this creates additional maintenance work and expense that could be spent improving our parks instead.

📞 Please help us take care of these spaces. If you see vehicles being driven recklessly or intentionally damaging park property, please report it, preferably to our friends over at the City of St. Marys Police Department !

❤️ We appreciate everyone who helps us keep Benzinger Park safe and looking its best!

Calling all little readers ages 3–6! 📚✨

The City of St. Marys Parks & Recreation Department is excited to introduce Storytime Adventures with Mrs. Nashadka, a monthly evening program created especially for our littlest park and recreation participants!

Each Storytime Adventure includes much more than reading a book. Children will enjoy a themed story, hands-on craft, special snack and drink, all centered around the season and that month’s featured book.

And parents are encouraged to stay and enjoy the fun, too!

🍂 October 1: Fletcher and the Falling Leaves
🦃 November 19: 10 Fat Turkeys
🎄 December 17: Bear Stays Up for Christmas
❄️ January 21: The Mitten
🐧 February 18: The Penguin Who Wanted to Fly
🐰 March 18: The Easter Egg

Storytime Adventures are led by Mrs. Angie Nashadka, a beloved first-grade teacher at St. Marys Catholic Elementary School who also serves as one of our Parks & Recreation Program Coordinators. She brings plenty of experience, creativity, and enthusiasm to make each evening something special for our youngest participants.

📍 Memorial Park Clubhouse
⏰ 6:00–7:00 PM
👧🧒 Ages 3–6
💲 $10 per child, per session
🎨 All supplies, snacks and drinks are included

Each Storytime Adventure is limited to just 15 children, so pre-registration is required.

🌳What’s Happening at Your Parks?

There has been quite a bit happening behind the scenes throughout the parks lately, so we wanted to share a few updates with our community!

🚶🏻‍♂️Benzinger Park Pedestrian Pathway
-Following the flooding earlier in July, portions of the pathway at Benzinger Park experienced significant washouts and erosion. Our Facilities Maintenance Manager, Scott, has been hard at work repairing and rebuilding the damaged areas.

Having dedicated maintenance staff within our department has allowed us to address more projects like this in-house and continue making improvements throughout our park system. We’re extremely appreciative of the work that went into getting the pathway back into shape!

⚠ Benzinger Park Pedestrian Bridge (Fleming Road)
-We know many of you have been patiently waiting for the return of the pedestrian bridge. We’re excited to share that the new bridge is currently undergoing fabrication and are hopeful that installation and excavation will be completed by the end of October!

🏐Benzinger Park Volleyball Courts
-The sand volleyball courts also sustained significant damage during the July flooding. After reviewing the work needed, the decision was made to hold off on restoration until Spring 2027.

🥒Memorial Park Pickleball Courts
-The perimeter fencing portion of this project has now been completed. There is still additional work remaining as part of the overall project, but we’re excited to see the new courts taking shape!

💜Kaulmont Park Playground
-The playground at Kaulmont Park remains closed after safety concerns were identified with the existing playground equipment. We are working through the planning and replacement process to determine the best path forward. Plans will be shared with the community once finalized.

Some projects can feel like they’re moving slowly from the outside. There are often many steps happening behind the scenes before there is something new to see in the park.

❤ We want these projects completed as quickly as you do and appreciate everyone’s patience while that process takes place! There are a lot of great things coming to our community and we are super excited to be a part of that!

🎃 BOO IN THE PARK IS GETTING AN UPGRADE! 🧙‍♀️✨

We’re excited to be working with the St. Marys Area Chamber of Commerce to make this year’s Boo in the Park an even bigger community celebration!

For the Parks & Recreation portion of the evening, we’re planning an elevated Hocus Pocus-themed experience at the park with more than just the movie.

Families can look forward to:

🔥 The Black Flame Candle Scavenger Hunt – search throughout the park for magical objects and help break the spell before the movie begins!

📸 Hocus Pocus Photo Spot – a themed photo area perfect for family pictures, costumes, and a little Halloween magic.

🎬 Hocus Pocus on the big screen – bring your blankets and lawn chairs and settle in for a magical fall movie night under the stars.

We’re still working on a few additional details and surprises to make the evening even more special!

Partnering with the Chamber gives us the opportunity to create one larger community event, bringing together local businesses, families, recreation, and Halloween fun throughout St. Marys.

🧪🔬 Camp Discovery ended the summer with a BANG! 💥☀️

Our final camp of the summer was all about Science Experiments, and our campers had a blast exploring, creating, and getting a little messy! 🧪 They dove into a slime lab, experimented with oobleck, completed lab reports using different solutions, and put their problem-solving skills to the test in a mystery escape room. 🕵️‍♀️🔍

They also created their own inventions using different craft materials, designed their very own scientists, and enjoyed plenty of trivia and Jeopardy! 🧠🎨 Of course, no summer day would be complete without ending the day hanging out and playing at the pool! 🏊‍♀️🌊

As we wrap up an incredible summer, we want to take a moment to say THANK YOU! ❤️

Thank you to all of our amazing camp counselors and supervisors who worked so hard to run, plan, and make each camp special. Thank you to our maintenance workers for keeping our parks clean, safe, and running smoothly. And thank you to our lifeguards for keeping our pools safe, fun, and ready for summer memories! 🛝☀️

And finally, thank you to everyone who helped Parks & Recreation in any way this summer. Your time, hard work, and support helped make this summer one to remember!

🌟 What an amazing summer it has been! We are so grateful for all the memories, laughter, and fun—and we already can’t wait to see everyone again next year! 💙

Last night, St. Marys came together to celebrate National Night Out! 👨‍🚒👮

It was an evening full of fun, community, and appreciation for the dedicated men and women who help keep our community safe. Families enjoyed face painting, a live band, a police K-9 demonstration, a firefighter obstacle course, a dunk tank, inflatable slides and obstacle courses, and so much more!

We were also excited to welcome some special guests, including Smokey Bear, Paw Patrol, and Sparky, who helped make the evening even more memorable for everyone.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, and helped make this event such a success. And an extra special thank you to our police officers, firefighters, first responders, and all those who work every day to keep St. Marys safe. We appreciate everything you do! ❤️🤍💙
