St. Marys Area United Way Supports Lifeguard Certification for City Pool Staff

The St. Marys Area United Way recently approved funding to assist the City of St. Marys Parks and Recreation Department with an unanticipated budgetary expense associated with preparing for the 2026 summer pool season.

As the City worked toward reopening the Community Pool for the 2026 season following repairs and improvements, an unexpected need arose to certify 20 lifeguards prior to opening. The additional certification costs were not anticipated during the City's budgeting process, creating a funding gap that needed to be addressed.
Recognizing the importance of the Community Pool as a valuable recreational resource for local families, youth, and residents, the St. Marys Area United Way provided grant funding to help cover the certification costs.

"The Community Pool is much more than a place to swimโ€”it's a gathering place where children learn lifelong water safety skills, families spend quality time together, and residents of all ages enjoy recreation during the summer months," said Doug Bauer, President of the St. Marys Area United Way. "We were pleased to partner with the City to help address this unexpected budgetary need and ensure the pool was prepared to serve our community."

The St. Marys Area United Way has a long history of supporting projects and programs that improve the quality of life for residents throughout the St. Marys Area School District. By responding to emerging community needs while continuing to invest in local nonprofit organizations, the United Way remains committed to its mission of People Helping People.

As the organization looks ahead, planning is underway for the 2026 St. Marys Area United Way Campaign. This year's campaign goal is $200,000, with every dollar raised staying local to support programs and services that benefit residents throughout the St. Marys Area School District.

The St. Marys Area United Way invites businesses, organizations, and individuals to support this year's campaign and continue the tradition of strengthening our community through local giving.
