Rest in honor, Officer Christopher DeLong.

Today the Columbia, SC Police Department lost one of their own. Officer DeLong gave everything in service to this community — and that sacrifice will never be forgotten.

To his family, his fellow officers, and the entire Columbia PD family: our hearts are with you. As a gym built by veterans and first responders, for veterans and first responders, we feel this loss deeply. Thank you for your service, brother. We have the watch.

More scattered storms are expected today and Saturday, mainly during the afternoon and into the early evening. A strong storm or two cannot be ruled out but slow moving storms and locally heavy rainfall could bring instances of flash flooding, mainly today.

Tabitha has been selected to present “𝙁𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙎𝙪𝙧𝙫𝙞𝙫𝙖𝙡 𝙩𝙤 𝙎𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙞𝙘𝙚: 𝙏𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙀𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙤 𝙀𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙣 𝙎𝙪𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙥𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙚” at the South Carolina APCO/NENA Fall Conference in October.

After experiencing one of the darkest moments of her life, Tabitha chose to turn that experience into an opportunity to educate and help others. Her session will focus on su***de response and how 911 dispatchers can play an important role in helping those experiencing a crisis.

Sheriff Summers is incredibly proud of Tabitha and the work she has put into sharing this important message with public safety from across South Carolina.

The August heat continues to remain locked in. Very possible today is the hottest day of 2026 with high temps around 100°. Augusta has yet to hit 100° and Columbia only once in 2026. Some afternoon thunderstorms likely again with the heat and humidity in place.
